Formby Junior Sports Club’s two Under 13 teams both won closely contested matches at the weekend.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 13 Blacks faced Bootle FC for the third time in four weeks and with both games finishing 4-4 it was bound to be a tight game. Top of the league Bootle FC started much the better side and it didn’t take long for them to take the lead via a great goal from Josh Burr. FJSC battled through the first half but could not really get their foot on the ball to take any control of the game.
At half time, a couple of tactical formation changes helped the team gain some control in the second half and Bootle started to sit deeper. It took a free kick from Oscar Buch-Platt to open the scoring for FJSC to make it 1-1. FJSC continued to create chances and Charlie Richardson finished one to give FJSC a 2-1 win on the day as they closed the gap on the leaders to six points with games in hand. FJSC Under 13 Whites travelled to Crosby to take on Crosby Stuart. With some illness and holidays the squad was reduced to elevenwhich meant lots of game time but no substitutes. Crosby started well and opened the scoring early in the game. Formby came back strong with goals from GregoryHoughton and Archie Marron with fine assists from Matthew Crutchley and Lewis Cregeen. FJSC extended their lead in the second half with Man of the Match Thomas Robertifinishing from a tight angle. Crosby Stuartpulled one back but FJSC Whites did just enough to hold on to their slender lead and win 3-2.
In the West Lancashire Junior League FJSC Under 12 Whites Sunday team won 4 nil against Redgate Rovers Yellows.
Also on Sunday FJSC Under 12 Blacks lost 3-1 to Bleak Hill Rovers Celtic.
In the Craven Minor League FJSC Under 12 Reds lost 6-2 away at Southport Hesketh in the Championship Division.
FJSC Under 11 Blacks were away to Forefield Rangers. Both teams started well in a tight opening to the first half. The Blacks then settled into their rhythm and Ashley Jones opened scoring after a fine first time through ball from captain for the day Idris Jones. Ashley Jones then quickly turned provider for Noah Underwood who hit the bar and followed up to finish. The Blacks continues through the gears and Alex Rowley latched onto an accurate pass from goalkeeper Max Byford before finishing in off the post. A nice bit of passing followed with a great switch of play from Ethan Catleugh to find Asher Fields who skilfully manoeuvred with a double drag back before finishing with a low shot. FJSCfinished the half with another goal after Isaac Melton’s accurate free kick took a deflection into the Forefield net.
The second half continued as the first finished with the Blacks expertly repelling the opposition attack before striking on the break. Alex Rowley broke from a long clearance, running half the length of the pitch before calmly finishing in the bottom corner. Shortly after Alex completed his hat trick after being picked out again by Max Byford. The scoring was completed by Idris Jones after good work from Ashley Jones, capping off a fine performance.
Man of the match was Max Byford for a calm performance in goal, maintaining a clean sheet and picking up two assists with excellent distribution. The result was another excellent team performance from the Blacks whocontinue to build and grow together.
FJSC Under 11 Gold were in action against Southport Athletic Red. The Gold team played very well in the first half but with no substitutes available the nine FJSC players had to play for the entire match. The boys began to tire in the second half and conceded more goals as their opponents were able to make changes on the heavy and stamina sapping pitch. It was a brave effort by the Gold team.
FJSC Under 10 Blacks played Crosby Athletic. From the opening kick-off it was clear that Crosby were well organised and they immediately set the tone by stringing together an impressive ten-pass move that ended with a shot on goal. That early passage of playsummed up the difference between the two teams on the day. Crosby’s sharp passing, movement and composure caused FJSC constant problems, and by half-time the visitors had a substantial lead despite the best efforts by the Blacks to compete and stay disciplined.
To their credit, FJSC showed real character after the break. The second half was a far more spirited display, with improved work rate and determination making life harder for the home side and preventing Crosby from having things entirely their own way.
While the final score reflected Crosby’s superior quality and cohesion, FJSC can take positives from their resilience and attitude, continuing to battle right through to the final whistle against a very strong opponent.
FJSC Under 9 Blacks started strongly against Churchtown Athletic with several attempts on goal before a fine pass from Isaac Murphy found Ted Middleton who neatly gave his team the lead from close range. The Blacks kept up the pressure holding the lead to half- time.
Churchtown started the second half well and due to a slip in concentration from the Blacks Churchtown scored to level the match. With a game now end to end there were chances and near misses for both teams. Churchtown were awarded a penalty which despite FJSC’sgoalkeeper Harley Rea’s best efforts went in. Undeterred the Blacks kept fighting and in the dying seconds of this pulsating match a well-taken Charlie Barnes free kick resulted in a goalmouth scramble. The alert Ted Middletonwith a poacher’s instinct again slotted the ball home giving the Blacks a well-deserved equaliser.
The Man of the Match award went to William Kenny for outstanding play up and down the wing.
FJSC Under 9 Reds had an early kick off against Marina Sands at Chesterfield High School. It was the third time the two teams had played each other in the space of two months. Unfortunately Marina Sands overpowered the Reds throughout and the Reds found it difficult to compete with their opponents. Isaac Kamel scored a good consolation goal towards the end of the second half and special mention to Billy Mainwaring who showed his competitive spirit throughout the game.
FJSC Under 7 Whites played Southport Trinity in a very closely contested match. Trinity scored early on. With some excellent defending William Laugley played his part in keeping Trinity contained. FJSC eventually got into the game with a well taken goal
by Edison Foy. Following this McEddy Osei Assibey scored from an impossible angle to give FJSC the lead . Rounding off a great performance Edison Foy bagged another goal with a confident finish. Despite some excellent defending from Shayan Palineventually Southport Trinity’s pressure resulted in a second goal. FJSC defended wellbut with the last kick of the game Trinity drew level. It was a fair result with both teams showing physicality and determination.
