Formby Junior Sports Club’s new football season got off to an excellent start at the weekend

Formby Junior Sports Club’s new football season got off to an excellent start with the Inter Club Section back in full swing with lively coaching sessions followed by friendly fun matches in all age groups.  Only four of the club’s Representative teams were in action with the rest all eagerly waiting the start of their fixtures next weekend.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 13 Whites played Maghull Blue and got off to a great start scoring after just 24 seconds. Straight from the opening exchanges, Sonny Callister provided the assist for Clayton Connolly, who found the net.  Maghull looked to respond, but FJSC continued to control proceedings and doubled their advantage after 17 minutes. This time Clayton Connolly turned provider, setting up Zac McHugh to make it 2-0.  A third followed seven minutes later when Josh Halpin created the opportunity for Finnbar Coss, who made no mistake with the finish.

Formby were showing plenty of quality in possession and Connolly grabbed his second of the morning after 32 minutes. Kayden Watters providing the assist as the Whites took a commanding advantage into the latter stages.

Clayton Connolly completed his hat-trick in the 46th minute, heading home from Brody Davidson’s delivery to cap another excellent FJSC move. There was no let-up from the Whites and just two minutes later Hugo Thomas added his name to the scoresheet. ZacMcHugh, having already scored Formby’s second, supplied the assist for Hugo Thomas to make it six.

The final word fittingly belonged to Connolly. Sonny Callister provided his second assist of the game in the 56th minute and Man of the Match Clayton Connolly finished to register his fourth goal and complete a deserved 7-0 victory.

It was an excellent opening-day performance from FJSC Under 13 Whites, with seven goals, seven assists and a clean sheet providing plenty of positives as they begin their West Lancashire League campaign.

FJSC Under 14 Whites playing in the West Lancashire Junior Football League for the first time were in action away against Burscough Barca.  The Whites with a number of boys making their debuts took to the 4G surface at Burscough with purpose and intent.  The pitch was great for the boys to play on but the goals were huge.

Burscough's stand out player was a speedy winger who was also the team’s sharp shooter. As the first half progressed Burscough went into a 3 nil.  FJSC responded with a brilliantly taken goal when Greyson Fox glided past a Barca defender before unleashing a powerful shot into the top corner of the net just before half time.  

In the second half FJSC went in search of a second goal but at times left themselves too open and Burscough added a couple moregoals.  Substitute Noah Lace saw plenty of theball in midfield and had a superb game. FJSC gained a couple of corners and put a bit of pressure on the home team.  The Whites then had their best moment of the game. Aftersome neat interplay from the FJSC boys all of a sudden Nik Kostakis broke through theBurscough ranks, and into the box.   The Burscough keeper came out but Nik slipped it past him for a great goal.

Burscough came on strong and added twomore goals before the final whistle. Although losing 7-2 there were lots of positives to take overall. Man of the Match was Jay the team’scaptain who produced a commanding display in defence. Notable words too for Jack Curtis, and also Archie Marron who had some good bursts in both halves.  All the boys played really well.

The new management team of Mark Woodward and Christopher Coyne are totally united on what they want to see from the team.  Whether they win or lose the boys are going to have fun.  One for all, all for one at FJSC U14 Whites. 

FJSC Under 15 Blacks produced an emphatic attacking display away at Litherland, running out 7–0 winners in a match where the eventual scoreline reflected the team’s control for long periods, Despite many early missed chances, some of the build-up play was exceptional, with many of the boys making the correct decisions at the right time, leading to some aesthetically pleasing patterns of play. Finally, the breakthrough came on 35 minutes when Harry Redhead opened the scoring with ZacHealy and William Madutlela linking up in the build-up, and from there, chances were createdwith some strong attacking patterns and positive movement in the final third. FJSCwent into the break only 1-0 up despite a great deal of possession.

The second goal arrived on 55 minutes, with Harry Redhead finishing off an open-play move. Harry then completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot on 63 minutes to put the teamfirmly in command. Elliot Dixon added a fourth on 69 minutes, before Fabian Reillystruck twice in quick succession on 72 and 74 minutes, the second coming from a corner delivered by Jenson Heron . Zac Healyrounded off the scoring on 79 minutes to complete a dominant performance.

The statistics underline just how much pressure FJSC applied. There was plenty to be pleased with, especially at the back where the shape stayed consistent and tight throughout; the way they moved the ball, created openings, and kept the opposition pinned back. It was also pleasing to see the new faces integrating into the team following the beach work and training pre-season. It was a very encouraging result, but there will be harder tests to come in the weeks ahead.  See squad photograph above.

FJSC Under 16 Black played away against Fowler Academy and lost 7 nil to a very good team.

INTER CLUB SECTION

There was an excellent attendance in the Inter Club for the first Saturday of the new season.  This included many new members in all age groups from four year olds up to fourteen year old boys in Year Nine.

Amongst the goals last Saturday were James McManus, Louie Winsor, Hudson Kenny, Harley Stirling, James Curran, Josh Kefford, Arthur Weir, Teddy Gillingham, Jack Vine, Zac Oliver-Watts, Ted Middleton, Harley Rea, Ronnie Dempsey, Isaac Kamel, William Kenny, Seb Graham, William Gregory, Greyson Fox and Archie Marron.

NEW MEMBERS ARE VERY WELCOME IN ALL INTER CLUB AGE GROUPS REGARDLESS OF ABILITY.  IF YOU ARE NOT SURE JUST COME ALONG AD GIVE FOOTBALL A GO.

All group sessions will comprise of coaching followed by a fun match.  There is a £3 charge each Saturday for coaching. Please arrive ten minutes before start time and give your name in for the register.
