Formby Junior Sports Club’s highlights from last weekend include FJSC Under 13 Blacks winning their Saturday and Sunday matches. FJSC Under 15’s and the Under 12 Whites Saturday team continue their unbeaten runs. At Inter Club there are now over thirty Year One footballers as numbers continue to grow at the younger age groups.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 15s Blacks continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 5-2 win over Marina Sands FC in the West Lancashire Junior Football League. Marina Sands took an early lead scoring with a header from a corner but two first half goals from Ethan Murphy and one from Evan Hughes after some excellent build up play gave FJSC a 3-1 lead at half time.
Marina Sands scored first again in the second half through a long-range effort, but FJSC restored their two-goal advantage through Joe Norrie who scored at the far post. The Blacksextended their lead further with an excellent finish from Ethan Richmond from outside the box.
FJSC Under 14 Whites produced a much better performance against Southport FC Yellow. The Whites started well and were the better team for the first twenty minutes. Southport against the run of play took the lead before Ben Gregory equalised with a long range shot which was close to the half-way line. Southport then regained the lead and went further ahead. Will Rawsthorne scored FJSC’s second goal but despite a very good effort especially from Dylan Hyslop and Man of the Match Luca Duncalf in midfield Southport went on to record a 6-2 win.
FJSC Under 13 Whites played a cup qualifieragainst Marina Sands Bilboa from the Premier Division. Bilboa started the stronger but Formby looked good defensively with JacobUnderwood and Jasper Lucas forming a powerful partnership at the back. FJSC took the lead with a counter attack. Archie Marronreceived a great pass from Thomas Robertiand raced clear and struck a powerful shot into the top corner of the net.
Bilboa came back well and scored two good goals either side of half time to take the lead. FJSC never gave up and another great finish from Archie Marron made it 2-2. Bilboa pushed hard for the winner but more resolute defending from Jack Curtis and Man of the Match Jasper Lucas kept them out. Towards the end of the game the pressure from Bilboafinally got them the winning goals. It was a great effort from the FJSC boys who should be proud of their excellent team performance.
FJSC Under 13 Black Saturday team entered the game against Forefield Red in good form.Although the match began with some scrappy play from both sides, FJSC quickly found their rhythm and took control of proceedings. A rock-solid defence anchored by Caden Walker, Louis O’Connor, and Alfie Forsyth, with dependable support from Oscar Phillips, effectively shut down Forefield’s attacking threats throughout the match.
In midfield, Oscar Buch-Platt, Louis Evans, and Ben Webster worked tirelessly, giving Forefield no respite, while Finley Scott and Josh Burr used the wings to great effect, constantly creating opportunities for strikers Isaac Jones and Charlie Richardson.
By half time, FJSC had established a commanding 5-0 lead. The second half saw fresh energy injected into the game with the introduction of Alex Barr and Seb Goatley, as FJSC kept Forefield pinned back in their own half.
The match concluded with a 13-0 victory, highlighted by goals from Charlie Richardson (4), Isaac Jones (3), Seb Goatley (2), Finley Scott (1), Ben Webster (1), and Josh Burr (1). Man of the Match was Oscar Butch-Platt.
FJSC Under 13 Black Sunday team began the Cup’s first round as reigning champions, coming off a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Haig Avenue against Churchtown Jaguars last season. Facing a good Southport Hesketh side, FJSC quickly set out to dominate on a pitch that perfectly complemented their passing style.
The pressure soon paid off, as Sylvan O’Hara powered in a bullet header to give FJSC an early 1-0 lead. Isaac Jones then doubled the advantage following a clever setup from Oscar Buch-Platt, putting FJSC 2 nil up inside the opening exchanges. Charlie Richardson continued the scoring spree before Isaac Jones netted his second, sending the team into the half-time break with a commanding 4-0 lead.
Defensively, Seb Goatley and Alex Barr effectively shut down any Southport counter-attacks, while Oscar Phillips excelled in his sweeper keeper role, making it difficult for the opposition to create clear chances. Midfielders Louis Evans, Oscar Buch-Platt, and Caden Walker controlled the tempo, keeping FJSC firmly in the opponent’s half. Finley Scott added a fifth with a well-taken goal, followed by two more strikes from Charlie Richardson. Before the final whistle, Isaac Jones completed his hat-trick, capitalising on slick wing play from Louis O’Connor and Ben Webster to seal an emphatic 8-0 victory and advance the team into the next round. Man of the Match was Alex Barr.
FJSC Under 12 White Saturday teamcontinued their strong start to the season with a determined 2–0 win over Forefield Blue in a scrappy but hard-fought contest. From the outset, Formby looked to press and create chances, and their persistence paid off midway through the first half. Kayden Watters unleashed a powerful strike from distance which was tipped onto the post by the goalkeeper. In the ensuing scramble, the pressure told as the ball was bundled over the line by a Forefield defender for an own goal. Formby pushed for a second, with Zac McHugh, Diego Funes-Cervera and Huey Stevenson all going close, only to be denied by some excellent goalkeeping.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with FJSC enjoying possession but struggling to kill the game off. Their breakthrough came when Josh Halpin burst forward from midfield and played a perfectly weighted pass through to Zac Cooper, who slotted home to make it 2–0. The team continued to create opportunities but couldn’t extend their lead.
Nonetheless, it was a strong, battling display, showing grit and determination to secure another valuable win.
After Saturday’s hard-fought win, FJSC Under 12 White looked to continue their good form on Sunday but were undone 5–2 by a strong and physical Parklands side. FJSC never really settled in the opening stages and quickly found themselves two goals behind.
Once they started to find their rhythm, FJSC created chances, and they were rewarded when Zac Cooper produced a brilliant lob to reduce the deficit just before half time. The goal gave them a lift, but hopes of a comeback were dented early in the second half when Parklands converted a penalty to restore their two-goal advantage.
FJSC refused to give up and hit back again through a moment of magic from Reuben Hunt, whose strike from the halfway line flew over the goalkeeper to make it 3–2. With momentum building, FJSC pressed for an equaliser, but their attacking intent left them open at the back. Parklands took full advantage, breaking away twice in the closing stages to secure a deserved 5–2 win.
FJSC Under 12 Reds had a tough game against an organised Southport Yellow team. Formby started well with some good passing moves and took the lead early on through a fine right footed finish by Jacob Holton. Southport rallied but were kept at bay by some solid defensive work from James Hannan and Max Fairhurst. Not long after FJSC extended their lead when a combative Izakk Hill was rewarded for his hard work placing a neat finish into the bottom corner. Southport nicked one goal back with a cheeky lob over the otherwise faultless Brett McKeown just before half time.
The second half was a different story as the Reds stuttered and were unable to get a foothold in the game. Indecisiveness in defence led to the equaliser when an easy ball was left as several players failed to claim the ball leading to an easy finish for Southport. Things went from bad to worse as heads dropped. The lack of fight crept in and Southport took full advantage dominating and scoring a further two goals as the Formby players looked on. Isaac Pepper was named Man of the Match for his hard work and positive attitude.
FJSC Under 11 Blacks faced off against Southport and Ainsdale Reds in a thrilling Cup qualifier. The Blacks put on a confident and skilful display, running out 5–2 winners after an action-packed encounter.
The tone was set early on when Idris Jones opened the scoring with an absolute screamer — a thunderous strike from distance that flew into the top right-hand corner, leaving the Reds’ goalkeeper rooted to the spot. The momentum stayed with FJSC as Asher Fields doubled the lead soon after, coolly finishing following a clever assist from Alex Rowley, who showed great awareness in midfield. S &A tried to push back, but FJSC’s attacking flair was relentless. A slick passing move saw Idris Jones turn provider, setting up Ashley Jones for the third goal with a precise through ball that Ashley tucked neatly past the keeper. The Reds grabbed one back to make it 3–1, but the Blacks kept their composure.
Not long after half time, Noah Underwood restored the three-goal cushion after a pinpoint assist from Jack Hansen, slotting home confidently to make it 4–1. S.& A. then pulled it back with another goal from a penalty. Late in the game, Joseph Kerrigan added the fifth with a well-taken finish, rounding off a commanding team performance and a well-deserved 5–2 victory that sends them marching on in the Cup. Player of the Matchwas Isaac Melton for his constant battling all over the pitch.
FJSC Under 11 Gold were up against it with several players missing and no substitutesavailable for their match against a very good Burscough Dynamo Green team. The Gold team never gave up and kept working right to the end. Despite the result, there were some positives going forward and a few bright moments that showed what the Gold team is capable of when moving the ball quickly.
Charlie Herbert put in a tireless performance and fully deserved Player of the Match for his work rate and determination. Leo McBurneywas outstanding in goal, pulling off a string of excellent saves to keep spirits up and showedreal bravery under pressure.
FJSC Under 10 Whites played Redgate Rovers Black in another good game of football. Thenew team is improving each week as the boys are getting used to their positions. FJSC hadsome good scoring chances with accuratepasses from Joshua Gillespie and OliverParrish in defence to Austin Faraday who then looked for Elliott Dyment in attack. However Redgate’s goalkeeper was very confident when called into action. Michael Moses was also good in defence and Joseph Elsey, EricWilliams and Luke Batcheler worked well in the middle and up and down the wings.Goalkeeper Teddy Mills once again made some great saves. The boys are enjoying playing as a team and keep their heads up at all times. Man of the Match went to AustinFaraday for his consistent pressing, tackles and for never giving up.
FJSC Under 9 Reds started the first half slowly against Southport Athletic Red and fell behind early to some good play from their opponents. After a tactical reshuffle the game became an end to end affair with chances for both teams. Milo House and Finlay Constable combined well down the left flank during the first half.
The second half continued in the same veinwith chances for both teams created in regularity. During the latter stages Teddy Regan with the pass of the day set up Isaac Kamel who hit a rasping drive which shaved the right hand post.
This was the team’s best performance so far and combinations are being formed which will see the team thrive over the coming weeks.
Man of the Match was Milo House who showed boundless energy and guile down the left flank throughout the game.
With a clash of fixture FJSC Under 9 Blacks had an early kick off hosting Churchtown Athletic. FJSC Blacks started well butChurchtown took the lead. With determination the Blacks fought back and were awarded a free kick outside of the area, which was nicely slotted home by Sam O’Brien. Just before half time Churchtown took the lead again.
Churchtown started strongly in the second halfand scored three quick goals in succession. The Blacks never let the heads go down and substitute Sebastian Downes came on and found the back of the net with a great finish. This lifted the Blacks and shortly afterwardsJames Taylor scored to further reduce the deficit. With the game coming to a close a well-placed ball found Ted Middleton who cleanly slotted it home. The Blacks were desperately seeking another goal to draw level but Churchtown just managed to hold on. It was a match played at a fast pace and was very exciting from start to finish. The Coaches’ Man of the Match was awarded to Sam O’Brien.
FJSC Under 8 Blacks after losing the last match bounced back with a very good performance against Southport and Ainsdale Black. Ollie Jones, Harry Brown, Jonas Ebo, Albee Fairhurst, Cole Jones and Dylan Woods were all scorers. Man of the Match was Jonas Ebo who played well throughout and scored a brilliant goal dribbling from his own half. See the squad photograph above of the boys in their new kits.
FJSC Under 8 Whites had a midweek rearranged match away at Churchtown Jaguars. It was a very close match with FJSC just edging it with one goal each from Cian O’Farrell, Sammy Porter and captain for the day and Man of the Match Jack Kefford.Everyone played their part from defence to attack which was lovely to watch.
On Sunday, FJSC Under 8 Whites were in action again this time against Redgate Rovers Green. Cian O’Farrell grabbed two goals including one absolute rocket which flew into the roof of the net. Tom Babun was also a scorer. Similar to the midweek match everyone played well again, but with fewer mistakes being made FJSC always held the upper hand. Player of the Match was Izzy Radcliffe for her brave tackling and tireless work rate.
FJSC Under 7 Whites started their game against Hesketh FC slowly and lacked intensity leading to a few early Hesketh FC goals. In the second half the team found their feet and Thomas Daley did well to get Formby on the scoresheet. McEddy Osei Assibey then burst forwards on a number of occasions and was rewarded with a great finish. Hesketh FC bagged another couple of goals but FJSC kept going with Shayan Palin showing excellent individual skill with a jinking run and a superb finish. The Whites ran out of time as they mounted a late comeback.
FJSC Under 6 Whites put up a valiant performance against a well organised CrosbyStuart team side. Formby’s Reuben Pearson made a string of fine saves to keep his team in the game but Crosby’s prolific striker scored a number of great goals from distance which FJSC found hard to deal with. The team didn’t get disheartened and James Curran scored two well taken consolation goals.
FJSC Under 6 Blacks played with great determination throughout the game against Redgate Rovers. Formby took an early lead through Gene Dugdale and never looked back. An energetic performance from Arthur Pollard set the standard for the entire team and the boys pushed for more goals – these came courtesy of Joshua Kefford and Gene Dugdale again. Having worked on positions during training earlier in the week the boys applied this really well in the game. Well done everyone.
