Formby Junior Sports Club have improved immensely as the season has gone on. Franks report here…

All Formby Junior Sports Club’s teams have improved immensely as the season has gone on. The Under 11 Blacks and the Under 9 Whites have hit their best form of the season and the Under 7’s have just finished a very good sequence of results. Also at the weekend there was a well earned draw by the Under 16’s and a thrilling drawn match between FJSC Under 8 Whites and FJSC Under 8 Blacks. FJSC’s Inter Club Section was well attended despite it being the start of the Easter holidays and once again following fun coaching sessions there were some exciting Inter Club matches played.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 11 Blacks) played Ormskirk West End on Sunday in near perfect conditions at Deansgate Lane. FJSC started well and dominated the first twenty minutes pinning the opposition in their half for much of the play. Ormskirk were well organised and looked dangerous on the break, but the FJSC defence of Charlie Knowles, Evan Hughes, Sam Uttley and Aaron Pickard was solid. With FJSC pressure Tom Donnelly scored with a sublime chip from an oblique angle on the right to give FJSC the lead after twelve minutes.

Abe Rice was everywhere in midfield, winning the ball, passing and making runs. Henry Renton distributed the ball brilliantly and showed great vision to thread a forty yard pass through to Patrick Fleming, who finished with a first time shot from the edge of the box to double FJSC’s lead after fourteen minutes. Ethan Richmond was strong upfront makingsome timely runs and had some great interplay with midfield. Ormskirk then began to press and had several chances before half time. Although FJSC held a two goal lead West End were still very much in the game.

FJSC started strongly after the interval and Samuel Lewis finished a well worked move after forty minutes. Josh Kearney came on to play on the right of midfield and after some great interplay down the right wing with Abe Rice and Henry Renton the ball was crossed in and Samuel Lewis was unlucky not to scorehis second goal as his shot hit the crossbar. FJSC kept the pressure up and Patrick Fleming scored his second goal after forty-three minutes and eight minutes later Samuel Lewis rounded off FJSC’s scoring with a fifth goal.

It was a fantastic team performance full of tackling, passing and excellent finishing. Another plus was that the defence kept a clean sheet. FJSC Under 11 Blacks have won all of their last five games. Player of the match was Patrick Fleming for his first class captain’s performance.

FJSC Under 16 Whites played away at Southport Trinity. Kyle Phillips gave FJSC the lead in the first half. There was very little between the teams and after sixty-eight minutes Trinity equalised for a 1-1 draw.

The Hightown League match between FJSC’s Saturday Under 12’s and TMS was very much a game of two halves. In the first half FJSC were second to every ball and TMS took full advantage and raced into a 5 nil lead by half time. Following a stern and much needed half time team talk FJSC were determined to try to make amends after the break. This they did and replied with three goals without reply. Henry Jones scored twice and man of the match Isaac Burns was also on the scoresheet.FJSC Under 12’s tried to reduce the deficit even more but TMS held firm to win this extraordinary match 5-3.

FJSC Under 9 Whites had a very close and competitive game with Churchtown Jaguarswhich was played in good spirit. It was a tight first half with very few chances for either team. Matthew Crutchley coming the closest with a shot off the upright. The second half continued in the same way until FJSC broke the deadlock with two late goals scored by Jacob Davies and Gregory Houghton. Two brilliant saves from man of the match Matthew Crutchley were instrumental in keeping a clean sheet. The Under 9 Whites have now won their last three matches.

FJSC Under 8. Reds played Southport and Ainsdale Amateurs. The Reds got off to a slow start and conceded two goals in the first half. The second half was very even as FJSC got into their stride. Both teams created chances but there were no further goals scored due to some notable saves and goal line clearances. Man of the match for a good disciplined defensive display went to Mason Todd.

FJSC Under 8 Whites played FJSC Under 8 Blacks. Honours were even at the end of a pulsating match with eight goals being scored in a high scoring draw.

FJSC Under 8’s Saturday team were in action against Clay Brow Rangers in the Hightown League. It was a good team performance with Josh Halpin, Edward Oliver and Diego Funes-Cervera all scoring.

FJSC Under 7 Whites were involved in a twelve goal thriller with a very good Southport and Ainsdale Reds team. FJSCtook the lead with a classy goal from Henry Williamson who put in his best performance of the season and added another goal to his tally late on. The game was very even throughout. It was only in the final few minutes that S. and A. edged in front. A stunning Jack Haggart goal, his second of the match, set up a tense finish as FJSC pushed forward but S. and A. held firm. It was a great match and one that illustrates the remarkable improvement the FJSC Under 7 team has made since the start of the season.

There was no shortage of goals in the match between FJSC Under 6’s and Northern. Twenty-two goals were scored with Finley Duffin scoring four times, a hat trick for Harrison Weir and one goal each for Archie Phenna, Daniel Johnson and Matthew Miles.
