Formby Junior Football Club-Frank's report

A hat trick of sunny weekends since the restart of football at Formby Junior Sports Club has brought in many new members into the Saturday Inter Club Section. The attendance in all age groups has been very high but the good news for those youngsters thinking or wishing to give football a go is that more new recruits will be more than welcome to come along for the ten remaining Saturdays before the end of the extended season.

Without doubt last Saturday’s Inter Club was one of the best of the season so far. The very young four-year-olds and Reception group impressed with their enthusiasm to learn new skills and the friendly game was full of action and plenty of fun.

The Year One group continues to grow and the boys are improving each week and very soon it is hoped to form two Representative teams for next season.

The Year Two section is the biggest in the Inter Club Section and another team should also be sorted out soon as well.

The Years Three and Four group had their highest attendance of the season. A new team for next season is also in the pipeline.

The Years Five and Six section is developing very well and the coaches have remarked on their efforts in training and coaching.

This short progress report is very encouraging for the future of the club.

Last Saturday’s Inter Club scorers were Jacob Givin, Seb Hodgson, Ethan Catleugh, Jackson Ebo, Joel Craven, Rory Rankine, Mason Stringer, Harrison Hughes, Finn McDerby, Jack Williams, Charlie Knowles, Alan Burness and Sam Uttley.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAMS

FJSC Under 10 Blacks played away at Southport Trinity. There was a quick start from both teams with FJSC going close to scoring first with a long-range effort from Patrick Fleming that just went over, only for Southport to get an early goal with their first attack with a shot from near to the touchline. Formby defended several corners very well and then broke up field where Tom Donnelly hit an unstoppable shot that went in to the top corner to equalise. Lewis Donoghue added a second shortly after with a clever finish to beat the Southport goalkeeper.

The second half started in similar fashion but the Blacks extended their lead when Ollie Dean received a pass in the middle of the pitch, and curled a shot into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area. Both teams continued to have chances and Robert Gorman made some excellent saves in the Formby goal. Southport Trinity did pull one back and then it was ‘backs to the wall’ defending from the Blacks for the final few minutes. It was nail-biting but the team’s effort was rewarded with a successful outcome. Man of the match was Robert Gorman for his confident display in goal.

FJSC Under 11’s Saturday team had a very hard fought encounter with Churchtown Athletic. A Henry Jones shot struck the Churchtown post in the first half but finally FJSC did take the lead when Berat Ullsoy scored from a header. Churchtown drew level in the second half before Freddie Garvey and Max Ryan scored two more goals for FJSC.

FJSC Under 11 Sunday team had a thrilling match away at Town Green. It was the Under 11’s first match since lockdown. Town Green took an early lead and scored again before half time. Archie Ogden scored in the second half to lift FJSC but soon Town Green added a third goal. FJSC were not deterred and came back strongly again. Darren Maxwell pulled a goal back and within a minute Callum Gray equalised for FJSC. The comeback was complete when Darren Maxwell coolly slotted home from the penalty spot. Man of the match was Luca Massey. It was a brilliant team effort.

FJSC Under 7 Whites played Southport Trinity Blues and just like last Sunday’s match it was a great game. FJSC had the better of the opening exchanges with Mason Stringer and Thomas Crutchley both going close. Mason Stringer opened the scoring after a great pass from Clayton Gilbertson set him free to score. Diego Funes-Cervera made it two nil before Mason Stringer scored twice to complete his hat trick. Trinity swept forward and scored and would have added goals before half time only for some very good defending by Jaiden Crosby in defence and the hard-working Josh Tallon.

The second half was much tighter with both teams playing good football. Trinity scored the only goal of the half. FJSC’s Clayton Gilberton was unlucky after hitting the bar from a free kick but the scoreline remained the same until the final whistle.

FJSC Under 15 Whites played top of the league Rainford Rangers. It was a terrific game of football. There were chances at both ends in the twelve-goal thriller. The Whites lost 7-5 but played extremely well. There was another brilliant display by Steven Mordaunt in the centre of midfield and the two centre halves, Samuel Colbourne and Callum Williams were also outstanding. Marc Whitelaw scored twice and there was one goal each for Steven Mordaunt, Ellis Parry and Henry Peck.

FJSC Under 16’s lost 3-1 to league leaders Dynamo Rangers. Conor Leyland scored a very well-taken goal by tricking two Dynamo defenders and the goalkeeper before netting. Man of the match was Gerard Broomfield. Sam Cousens also played well and goalkeeper James Everitt made some good saves in a much-improved team performance.

FJSC Under 7 Blacks played Southport Athletic Whites again. Finn McDerby, Rory Rankine Joseph Kenyon scored the goals for the Blacks. Noah Walker-Hall and Harrison Hughes defended well. Will Roberts played his best game of the season so far and was voted man of the match.
