Formby High School has been named the top-performing secondary school in Formby and across Sefton for GCSE results, according to new data released this week by the Department for Education.
The figures, based on results from the 2024/25 academic year, rank schools by their GCSE performance and come just two weeks before parents in many areas must submit applications for Year 7 places starting in September 2026.
Formby High School leads the way with an impressive 65.8% rating, placing it at the top of Sefton’s secondary schools. It is followed by:
Birkdale High School – 57.4%
Chesterfield High School – 51.8%
Greenbank High School – 50.5%
Maricourt Catholic High School – 43.7%
This year’s tables differ from previous years, as the pupil progress (‘added value’) score has not been included. The Department for Education explained that this measure could not be calculated because pupils in the Class of 2025 did not sit national primary assessments in 2020 due to the Covid-19 lockdowns.
Despite the absence of this metric, the newly released results still offer valuable insight into schools’ academic performance ahead of the October 31st deadline for secondary school applications.
Formby High School’s continued academic success reinforces its reputation as one of the region’s leading schools, consistently achieving strong results and maintaining high educational standards for local pupils.
