Formby Beach was transformed into a vibrant hub of activity as thousands of people headed to the coast to make the most of what is being widely described as one of the hottest May Bank Holidays on record.
Under clear blue skies and unusually warm temperatures for this time of year, families, friends and visitors from across the region flocked to Formby and Freshfield, creating a lively and uplifting atmosphere along the shoreline. The beach was filled with people enjoying games, picnics, paddling in the sea and simply soaking up the sunshine, with a real sense of summer arriving early.
Despite the sheer volume of visitors, the mood throughout the day remained positive, with many describing the atmosphere as “fantastic” and “one of the best days seen in years” on the coast. Children could be seen playing on the Sandhills, groups gathered for beach games, and the dunes and shoreline were alive with energy and laughter.

The warm weather and bank holiday timing proved to be the perfect combination, showcasing Formby Beach at its very best and reminding many why it remains one of the region’s most popular destinations during the spring and summer months.

While the popularity of the day did bring some challenges with traffic and parking, the overwhelming feeling for many was one of enjoyment, community spirit and appreciation for the beautiful coastline.
It was, for many, a Bank Holiday to remember.
