Formby Junior Sports Club’s membership continues to grow with a surge of young footballers joining the club each week.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC’s youngest team the Under 6’s played in a competitive match against Northfield. Formby were dangerous in attack with Kayden Dowdall and Leo McGuire unlucky not to score with some excellent saves from the Northfield keeper. Through a bit of luck Northfield took the lead until Toby Woodcock started the scoring for FJSC with a good finish.
The Under 6’s worked well in defence with William Laughly performing with his usual reliability, stopping Northfield on several occasions. FJSC scored two more goals with McEddy Osei Assibey bagging both, a well-deserved reward for his excellent attitude and hard work for the team. On his debutMikey Tucker slotted home a great finish and was an asset with some very good passing. Northfield scored another goal at the end of the game.
It was a well-earned victory for the Under 6’s who are gaining invaluable experience from the matches played and are improving with every outing. Leo McGuire finally got his Man of the Match award following a string of great hard working performances over the last couple of months.
In the Hightown Junior League it was cup semi-final action for three FJSC teams. Unfortunately FJSC suffered three defeats.
FJSC Under 12 Blacks played Hillside Athletic. FJSC started this game brightly and played some nice football. After ten minutes Hillside pushed forward and created an opening which they took well to put themselves 1 nil up. FJSC then pushed on for an equaliser and only for good goal line clearances and a post the score remained 1-0.
Hillside then took advantage and scored two quick goal to make it 3-0 at half time.
The boys recomposed themselves and came out firing in the second half and Ben Webster then made it 3-1. With fifteen minutes to go and FJSC needing two goals, risks were taken which Hillside punished and the game finished 5-1.
FJSC Under 13 Blacks narrowly lost 3-2 to Maghull Yellows and FJSC Under 15 Blacks also failed to reach the final losing 5-1 to Silcox Villa.
It was a happier news from the two Under 11 Saturday teams. The Whites gained a very impressive win against Muniflex. Diego Funes-Cervera scored a fine hat trick. Zak Cooper scored twice and there was also one goal each from Huey Stevenson and Archie Walker. FJSC Blacks played very well and gained a win over Marina Sands. The pick of the goals was a half volley shot from Tom Murphy.
In the penultimate game of the season FJSCUnder 11 Reds travelled to Southport Heskethwith a severely depleted squad. After starting off well they found themselves two goals down due to defensive mistakes. Strong wing-play from Tommy Collins and Mason Todd saw the boys begin a fight back and a great through ball from Tom Murphy put Chase Lowen 1 on 1 with the keeper which he slotted neatly into the bottom corner. The Reds were unfortunate to concede again from a breakaway to go in 3-1 down at half time.
In the second half the Reds rallied. A composed defensive display from James Hannan gave a platform for the attacking players to go at the opponents and saw several attempts at goal from Chase Lowen and Tom Murphy. Unfortunately the heat and lack of substitutes caught up with the team as they began to tire and were unlucky to concede a fourth goal from close range in a score line that didn't reflect on the game. Man of the Match was Tommy Collins for his non-stop battling and fearless defending.
FJSC Under 7 Blacks enjoyed a friendly match against Redgate Rovers Yellows. It was an end to end game. Goalkeeper Albee Fairhurst made some amazing saves. On his return after injury team captain Ollie Jones scored a hat trick. Harry Brown scored a brace and Cole Jones was also a scorer.
INTER CLUB FOOTBALL
FJSC’s younger age groups are growing in number particularly the four year olds, Reception, Year 1, year 2 and Year 3 which was very evident last Saturday morning.
There were some very entertaining matches in every age group with some exciting goalmouth scrambles, wonderful saves by goalkeepers, great goals, superb tackling, good passing and improved overall skill on display in every match.
Although there was no shortage of action in the Year Three game for the first time this season a match finished with a 0-0 score which is very unusual. Congratulations to the defences of the Reds and the Blues.
Scoring the goals were – Ezekiel Fitzgibbon, Leo Clarke, George Leggett, McEddy Osei Assibey, Edison Foy, Kayden Dowdall, Charlie Ormesher, Jacob Holton, Paolo Raffo, Tom Murphy, Will Rawsthorne, Dennis Kallianiotis, Charlie Griffiths and Evan McKeown.
