Family Fun Day and Virtual Stem Cell Donor Recruitment Event at Formby Pool Park on Saturday 3rd August

Join us for a day of fun and community spirit at Formby Pool Park on Saturday, 3rd August, as StemCellScousers hosts a free Virtual Stem Cell Donor Recruitment Event combined with a Family Fun Day. The event aims to bring together young families and grandparents to raise awareness and recruit new stem cell donors.

Event Schedule:

10:45 AM: - The day kicks off with a lively fanfare, setting the tone for a day full of entertainment.

11:00 AM - 6:00 PM: - Enjoy performances by a choir and 10 local bands, showcasing a variety of musical talents. The festivities will culminate with a performance of “AMARILLO” and a dance around the park.

Penalty Shoot-Out: - Compete for the star prize, an LFC ball signed by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Face Painting: - Creative and colourful face painting sessions.

Colouring Table: - Sponsored by McDonald's, featuring balloons and plenty of colouring fun.

Formby Fire Engine: - Meet the firefighters and explore the fire engine.

- **Train Ride:** Delight in a scenic train ride around the park.

Following the conclusion of the event, The Smokey Squirrel will relocate to its new permanent location at Formby Football Club, situated behind Tesco.

Anthony Nolan Background Information:

In 2023, over 250,000 people in the UK were living with blood cancer. Every year, around 15,000 people die from this illness, making it the third biggest cancer killer. Every four minutes, someone is newly diagnosed with blood cancer, and over 600 children are diagnosed annually (Source: Blood Cancer UK).

The Anthony Nolan charity is at the forefront of finding life-saving stem cell donors. Last year, they conducted worldwide searches for 2,400 patients but could only find matching donors for 1,407 patients. Despite recruiting 36,747 new donors in 2023, only 8,661 were from ethnic minority backgrounds, representing just 23.5%—a global trend that underscores the need for more diverse donors.

Anthony Nolan recruits potential new donors aged 16-30 through an easy and free process. At the event, StemCellScousers will guide participants through the registration process. This includes scanning a QR code to register online, receiving a swab kit by post, and returning the swabs in a prepaid envelope to be entered into the donor register. It costs £40 to register just one potential new donor.
