A special moment for the local football community today as Redgate Rovers JFC’s two Under 18s sides faced each other for the final time in the league — marking the end of an incredible journey for a group of players who have grown up together through the club.
Many of the squad first pulled on a Redgate shirt as young as Under 5s, with others joining along the way, but all sharing the same experience of building lasting friendships and memories that go far beyond the pitch.
Over the years, both teams have enjoyed fantastic success, winning league titles and cups, and representing the club with pride. This season could yet end on a high, with the Blacks still in contention for an impressive league and cup double.
Today’s game had all the hallmarks of a local derby, with a closely fought contest and plenty of passion from both sides. But once the final whistle blew, it was clear what truly mattered — friendships that have stood the test of time.
Moments like this highlight what grassroots football is all about, and none of it would be possible without the dedication of the coaches. A huge thank you goes to Rob Shalliker, Chris Kearsley, Chris Hall and Mike Higgins for their commitment and support over the years.
