Last night (Tuesday 29 April), a notable emergency services presence was reported at Lifeboat Road and Formby Beach. Members of the public contacted Formby Bubble after spotting several police vehicles at the scene, raising concern and curiosity in the community.
Witnesses reported seeing up to five police cars and suggested that an armed response unit may have been involved.
A police spokesperson confirmed that officers were called to the scene at around 8:15pm after receiving reports of an object discovered in the sand. Upon inspection, the object was found to be a gas canister, and not a suspicious or dangerous device.
Importantly, police have confirmed that no armed officers were deployed as part of the response.
Crosby Coastguard said: “The team were called to assist the police on the beach at Formby. Members of the public had reported finding an object that looked like a bomb.”

“The met with police and photographed the item. The photos were sent to the Army Explosive Ordnance Unit who studied the photos but could not be sure of the item.”
“Due to the incoming tide, we left the beach with a plan to return the following morning. The item was assessed not be ordnance.”
