This afternoon, Formby came alive with music, laughter, and community spirit as dozens of residents gathered for the 80th Anniversary VE Day Party in the Park, hosted by Formby Parish Council at the beautiful Platinum Jubilee Park on Lonsdale Road.
Under glorious sunshine — with the weather truly cracking the flags — families, friends, and neighbours filled the park with picnic blankets, chairs, and hampers, creating a vibrant and nostalgic atmosphere that honoured the end of World War II.
The free event, which ran from 1pm to 6pm, offered a fantastic line-up of live 1940s entertainment. DJ Dapper Dan set the tone with vintage tunes, followed by lively performances from Formby Little Theatre, the Viking Skiffle Group, and the delightful Golden Age Songbird — all bringing wartime spirit to life through music and storytelling.
Formby Civic Society added a special touch with their fascinating display of original World War II artefacts, giving visitors a glimpse into life during the 1940s.
