Double wins at the weekend for Formby Junior Sports Club despite the bad weather

ree

There were double Saturday and Sunday wins for Formby Junior Sports Clubs Under 13 and Under 14 Blacks on a weekend of contrasting weather conditions.  Saturdays matches were played in glorious sunshine whilst on Sunday every match was played in heavy rain.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 15s maintained their unbeaten record with a hard fought 1-1 draw against Forefield Rangers in the West LancashireJunior League. In a game of few clear-cut chances both teams defended well and the first half finished 0-0.

Forefield took the lead following a counterattack half way through the second half and FJSC then pinned Forefield back into their own half for the remainder of the game.  The breakthrough came in the final few minutes as Evan Hughes played a free kick forward.  Ollie Dean broke the offside trap and crossed to Ethan Richmond whose shot was blocked, and the ball fell to Tom Donnelly who had taken up an excellent position at the back post, for him to tap home for a deserved equaliser. Player of the Match was Abe Rice for his strong performance in the centre of midfield.

FJSC Under 14 Blacks Saturday team went into their match with FCN Yellow with the instructions to keep possession and to recycle the ball. They did just that with simple short passes getting the team up the pitch.   FJSC were two goals up at half time, controlling play from back to front and could easily have been further ahead.

The team lost their way a little at the start of the second half but what was most impressive was their reaction to conceding a couple of goals. The boys reverted back to playingpositive football and were rewarded with a couple of goals towards the end to see FJSC win 6-3. There were two goals each from Fabian Reilly and Ben Harris.  Man of the Match Oskar Wood also scored and was outstanding in the middle, winning battles,  playing the simple ball and going on some good runs when play allowed it.

FJSC Under 14 Blacks Sunday team came through a stern test with flying colours to win 4-3 against River Juniors Rio.  The boys dug in from the off and were creative when needed but really solid in defence. Conceding first could have led to floodgates opening but FJSCplayed themselves back into the match and goals from Connor Howells and Ben Harris gave the team a well-deserved 2-1 lead at half time.

River Juniors quickly drew level after the break and then went 3-2 ahead. That’s when the magic happened. It was at that point the squad of thirteen upped the tempo with a disciplined determination . A second goalfrom Connor Howells levelled the score at 3-3.  With ten minutes remaining Zak Healypopped up with a goal which put FJSC ahead.  A fantastic effort was made by every member of the team and the opposition were held at bay until the final whistle was blown.   The management team and parents were immensely proud of the boys.

FJSC U13 Black began their fourth consecutive campaign in the Hightown Premier League with a challenging fixture against Crosby Stuart FC—a familiar opponent from last season’s Spring Premier League Playoff.

The team started brightly, showcasing fluid passing and intelligent movement. A well-worked build-up culminated in Caden Walker finding space in the box and curling a superb finish into the top corner to give FJSC a deserved 1–0 lead.  Seb Goatley was a constant threat down the right flank, stretching the Crosby defence and creating chances.Despite FJSC’s dominance, a sharp counterattack saw Crosby Stuart level the score.

Undeterred, FJSC continued to control the game. Alfie Forsyth restored the lead with another well-crafted team goal, and just before half time, Alfie Forsyth turned provider—setting up Charlie Richardson for a composed finish to make it 3–1.

In the second half, defensive solidity from Ellis Coyne, Alex Barr, Louis O’Connor, and Seb Goatley, combined with a confident performance from Oscar Phillips in goal, kept Crosby at bay. Midfielders Ben Webster, Leo Fagan, Louis Evans, and Oscar Buch-Platt managed the game expertly, while Josh Burr and Charlie Richardson led the line with energy and creativity.  Despite several promising attacks, a fourth goal proved elusive. Nonetheless, it was a commanding team performance where every player contributed against a strong Crosby Stuart side.  Man of the Match was Seb Goatley.

FJSC Under 13 Blacks Sunday team started brightly in their match away at Southport and Ainsdale. It wasn’t long before Isaac Jones opened the scoring. Moments later, Caden Walker doubled the lead to make it 2–0. With momentum firmly in their favour, FJSC pressed on, and Isaac Jones netted his second before Charlie Richardson added a fourth. At half time, FJSC had a 4 nil advantage.

The second half began under driving rain, and FJSC were slow to find their rhythm. Southport & Ainsdale took advantage of the sluggish restart and pulled one back. However, FJSC quickly responded. A pinpoint long ball from Oscar Buch-Platt found Finley Scott, who calmly restored the four-goal cushion. As the match wore on and the pitch deteriorated, play became scrappy. Still, Louis Evans managed to slot home a well-taken goal, and Oscar Buch-Platt capped off a Man of the Match performance with a brilliant solo runand goal to seal a 6–1 victory.

FJSC Under 12 Whites Saturday team played very well against Kingsway and won 2-1 with a goal each from Zac Cooper and Diego Funes-Cervera.

FJSC Under 12 Blacks narrowly lost 3-2 to FCFA Falcons.

FJSC Under 12 Whites Sunday team lost 6-2to FC Sparta Madrid.

FJSC Under 12 Reds started well and took the game to their opponents 11 Soccer Coaching. The Reds conceded early after an unexpected mistake by goalkeeper Brett McKeown. Chase Lowen broke clear of the defence on several occasions but saw his shots go wide. His persistence paid off and Chase was able to slot one past the keeper to bring the score level. Formby were unfortunately unable to take advantage. The opposition were able to take the lead after concentration levels dropped and the Reds went into the break 3-1 down.

A few attacking changes saw FJSC rally in thesecond half but the work rate and tough tackling from the first half was gone as legs tired. The lack of consistency saw the boys concede another three goals despite solid midfield work from Haden Radcliffe and Isaac Pepper. A late consolation goal scored by the Man of the Match Chase Lowen wasn’t enough to start a comeback but the score line was flattering for the visitors.

FJSC Under 11 Blacks played Crosby Stuart.  Both teams were undefeated so far this season.  Crosby Stuart started the brighter of the two teams, showing real attacking intent and took an early lead. Their pressure continued throughout the first half, and they doubled their advantage before the break, heading into half time with a 2–0 cushion.

FJSC, however, were not about to let their unbeaten record slip away. After a spirited team talk, the boys came out for the second half with renewed energy and determination. The comeback began when Ethan Catleugh’sperfectly delivered corner was met by Isaac Melton, who converted superbly to give Formby a lifeline. Moments later, Asher Fields produced a moment of quality, threading a sublime pass through for Alex Rowley, who made no mistake in levelling the score at 2–2.

With momentum firmly in their favour, Formby pressed forward again. Idris Jones, who had worked tirelessly all game, showed great composure to set up Alex Rowley once more, and the striker coolly finished to give Formby the lead for the first time.  Despite late pressure from Crosby Stuart, FJSC held on to complete a remarkable comeback victory; maintaining their 100% record this season.

The Man of the Match was a difficult call, with strong performances from goalkeeper Max Byford, striker Alex Rowley, and several others. However, for his relentless work rate, determination, and crucial contribution in the winning goal, Idris Jones deservedly took home the award.

Before the match between FJSC Under 11 Gold and Crosby Stuart the two teams held a respectful one-minute silence to mark Remembrance Day, observed impeccably by both teams and supporters.

Despite a difficult result, the Under 11 Goldteam showed great effort and resilience against a very strong opposition. The players worked hard throughout, maintaining a positive attitude and continuing to look for opportunities to play their football. The defence was tested regularly, but remained organised and committed, with Ethan Carrearning Player of the Match for his excellent defensive work and determination. There were positive moments in attack too, with AhmadAbdulafeez scoring with a superb strike that reflected the team’s perseverance and spirit.

It was challenging match, but there wereplenty of learning opportunities and encouraging signs for the games ahead. Well done, Under 11 Golds, for the hard work and attitude throughout.

FJSC Under 10 Whites played Southport and Ainsdale. It was a team the Whites had alsoplayed at the beginning of the season.  The result was the same but the final score did show how much the virtually brand new team has improved in a couple of months. TeddyMills once again made some outstanding saves. Joshua Gillespie, Otto Johnson, Michael Moses and Oliver Parrish are all improving in defence.  Austin Faraday played upfront and had a couple of good shots on target. Eric Williams, Luke Batcheler and Joshua Gillespie all worked hard too and didn’t give up.

FJSC Under 10 Black played Dynamo Burscough Yellow on a very heavy pitch.  Dynamo started on the front foot, pinning FJSC back with sustained pressure and deservedly took a 2–0 lead into half-time.

FJSC came out fighting after the break, showing real character. Their persistence and improved passing were rewarded with a well-worked goal to halve the deficit. Burscough responded quickly to restore their two-goal cushion, but FJSC refused to fold. A fired-up midfield and attack drove them forward, and another excellent move brought FJSC back to 3–2, setting up a tense spell.

Chasing an equaliser, FJSC committed bodies forward, but Burscough remained ruthless on the break, adding two late goals to seal the result. Despite the score line, it was another closely contested game, with both sides working tirelessly in tough conditions and FJSC showing plenty of effort, quality and spirit throughout.  Daniel MacArthur and Lukas Sammon were on the scoresheet for FJSC.

FJSC Under 9 Blacks hosted Redgate RoversGreen a team they also played the week before in the cup qualifier.  FJSC started well and Ted Middleton gave his team the lead scoring with a well-placed shot.

Redgate started the second half well and scored a couple of goals in quick succession.  Harley Rea made some great saves but Redgate kept pressing and extended their lead further before the end.  The Man of the Matchaward was shared by Oscar Craven and Isaac Murphy for outstanding defensive displays.

FJSC Under 8 Whites Saturday team were in action against Kingsway Blue.  It was an exciting end to end match. There was a very good display from Oli Jones who led by example with his running and tackling all overthe pitch.

Special mention for the two stand-in goalkeepers Harry Brown and Sonny Clarkewho made some fantastic saves.  The scorewas level until the last five minutes when Kingsway went ahead.   There were loads of positives.   The Players of the Match were Oli Jones and Cole Jones.  See the photograph above of the team and managers.

FJSC Under 8 Whites Sunday team turned in a superb team performance against RedgateRovers Yellow.  It was a lively encounter from start to finish.  Redgate began brightly and looked dangerous.  Formby Whites remained solid and grabbed the opening goal with an excellent counter attack. Cian O’Farrell and Tom Babun both netted twice, with CoreyFlynn and Jack Kefford adding one each to round off a confident attacking display. IzzyRadcliffe was tireless throughout, pressing brilliantly and linking play in midfield.

FJSC Under 8 Blacks played well and had a good result against Southport and Ainsdale Blue.  Scoring the goals were Harry Brown, Ollie Jones, Tayo Popoola and Cole Jones.

FJSC Under 7 Whites had a full squad available for their home match against Crosby Stuart.  Their opponents took an early lead but Formby quickly replied through solid work from McEddy Osei Assibey made possible by a brilliant forward pass from Mikey Tucker. Despite lots of great defence work especially from the Man of the Match Edison Foy,Crosby bagged five more goals. The Whites showed great determination and came back into the game with a good goal from Kayden Dowdall. A final goal of the game was a credit to the team with good inter passing between Kayden Dowdall and Toby Woodcock which set the play up for Thomas Daly to finish well.
