Congratulations to Formby Junior Sports Club’s Under 9 Reds who won their first ever match on Sunday. Every match that went ahead on Sunday was played in dreadful weather conditions and every team manager praised the efforts of all the boys as they not only battled against some very good ordetermined opponents but also against the elements as well.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 9 Reds celebrated their first ever win on Sunday with a strong performance against Burscough Dynamo Green. The first half was frenetic with both teams having chances in an end to end affair. Alex Kirkby playing in a deeper role continued his excellent recent form by mixing key interceptions with a good range of passing. The first half ended in stalemate.
The second half saw the Reds dominate for long periods and the pressure eventually told with Finley Constable finishing a good move with a crisp strike under the goalkeeper. Special mention should go to Billy Mainwaring who provided the key assist. The Reds survived a late scare when a free kick from Burscough hit the post but the Redsthoroughly deserved the win. Man of the Match was Alex Kirkby. Also playing well in this very good team performance were Oliver Holder, Milo House, Lucas Kelly, Adam Hennigan, Isaac Kamel, Ed Makinson and Ray Burkett. See the team photograph above.
FJSC Under 14 Whites played very well against Southport Athletic who are arguably the strongest team in the league. It was a very positive performance and at a crucial time in the match when the Whites were only one goal down the team was unlucky not to have been awarded a penalty for handball. Will Rawsthorne and Luca Duncalf worked tirelessly and gave the Southport Athletic players little time on the ball . Man of the Match was goalkeeper Harry Ball who made some great saves and was quick off his line to sweep up dangerous through balls. Despite eventually losing 3 nil the Whites made a real match of it and can be proud of their efforts.
FJSC Under 13 Whites played a very goodSouthport Hesketh at Deansgate Lane. FJSC’s goalkeeper Harry Jones making a string of good saves but Southport Hesketh were too strong and scored a number of goals. To their credit in very difficult playing conditions the Whites kept going to the end.
FJSC Under 12 Reds started well against Southport Community FC Yellow. Keeper Brett McKeown took advantage of the high winds and made several long passes deep into the opposition half to create chances for Chase Lowen and James Hannan who saw shots go narrowly wide until Chase was able to drill a powerful shot past the besieged keeper. Shortly after a goalmouth scramble saw Frank Kulazinski pop up at the back post to score the Reds second goal of the game and his third of the season. The boys then took their foot off the gas which allowed Southport back into the game and they were able to end the first half squeezing a near post shot past Brett McKeown after the defence failed to clear.
Several subs were made at the start of the second half but the game continued much like the end of the first. Southport were on the front foot and FJSC had no answer to stoptheir attacks. A long ball sent the Southportstriker clean through and he rounded the Redskeeper to even the score. FJSC fought hard to stay in the game. From a counter attack across found Haden Radcliffe unmarked in the area but his shot went agonisingly wide. FJSCcontinued to look for a breakthrough only to see an unfortunate handball given and the penalty converted even though the keeper chose to dive in the right direction.
Some good attacking play from Frank Kulazinski and Jacob Holton
forced a late corner. Jacob’s in-swinger caused panic and was not cleared properly by the Southport defence. The ball landed perfectly for Daniel Ashcroft to smash home through a crowd of players for the much deserved equaliser. The match ended 3-3 which was a fair result for the two evenly matched teams. Man of the Match was Frank Kulazinski for his endless running and solid tackling.
FJSC Under 10 Whites travelled to Southport Athletic and played on a pitch which was like a mud bath. The FJSC boys played their best in awful weather conditions. Southport Athletic were on top form and went on to win comfortably. The Whites kept battling until the end and didn’t let their heads drop. TheoCavanagh was Man of the
Match for his impressive performance in defence.
FJSC Under 10 Blacks and Redgate Rovers Green served up a nine-goal thriller on a very cold, wet and breezy morning, with Redgate edging it by one goal. Redgate started the sharper side, pressing high and winning second balls to race into a 2–0 lead by half-time. They struck again seconds after the restart with a long-range effort to make it 3–0 and looked firmly in control.
FJSC’s response was superb. Showing real character, they battled back with two quick goals to drag themselves into the contest. Just as momentum swung, Redgate hit back with two more to restore a three-goal cushion. Many teams would have folded, but the Blacks kept pushing, scoring twice late on and pinning Redgate back to set up a tense finish. Time ran out on the comeback, but FJSC can be proud of their effort, attitude and attacking play throughout. Scoring the goals for FJSC were Daniel MacArthur, Seb James, Lukas Sammon and Theo Richards. There were plenty of positives for FJSC to take away, who will surely have felt they deserved more from the game.
FJSC Under 9 Whites braved torrential downpours against a very strong Crosby Stuart team but although there were chances for both teams FJSC found themselves 2-0 down at half time after an unfortunate own goal and a long range free. FJSC came back strong in the second half and Archie Jones scored from outside the box to get FJSC back in the game. The Whites kept pushing for the equaliser but just fell short. Brilliant displays from RexByrne and Maxwell Rathbone in defence earned them joint MOTM.
FJSC Black were in action against HeskethBank Ambers. Hesketh took the lead with an early goal, but Sam O’Brien quickly led the charge, scoring a brilliant goal to put FJSC Black on the board. Undeterred, Heskethseized the opportunity and took the lead again with two goals in quick succession, giving them the upper hand at half time.
FJSC regrouped after the break and bounced back strongly scoring with a well-placed free kick from Ted Middleton. It was a fast-paced game and there was plenty of intensity from both sides. Hesketh Bank looked like theywere going to hold onto their slender lead but then, a breakthrough ball from Sam O’Brien found Isaac Murphy, who neatly slotted it home to level the score. Just when it looked like the game was going to end in a draw up popped Isaac Murphy again to score the winner.
It was a very exciting match full of chances for both teams. Oscar Craven, Zach Oliver Watts, and James Taylor put on an outstanding defensive display. Goalkeeper Harley Rea was put under a lot of pressure, but he seemed to thrive on it. Teddy Ball worked tirelessly on the wing, and Sebastian Downes covered every blade of grass in midfield.
Ted Middleton was named Man of the Match for his consistent play, even though he faced many challenges and was unlucky to only score one goal this week.
FJSC Under 8 Whites played away at Crosby Stuart in what turned out to be a high scoring entertaining match. The Whites started brilliantly taking an early lead and showing real intent. After conceding two quick goals, the game stayed at 2–1 for a long stretch, and during that period the team held their shape superbly – a huge improvement from the start of the season. Twelve goals were scored -four by the Whites. There were many goal scoring opportunities throughout the match and the score line could have been very different with the chances the team created. Everyone played really well with the goals coming from Corey Flynn, Anders Carter, Jimmy Duckworth and Cian O’Farrell.
Man of the Match was Rex Friday who was outstanding between the sticks with some brilliant saves and calm, accurate passing from the back to start FJSC’s attacks. Every single player can be proud of themselves. The weather was truly awful so a big shout-out to all the parents and grandparents etc. who braved it to support and encourage the team. There were plenty of positives to take forward. The team held its shape and the effort from everyone was outstanding. This team is improving every week.
FJSC Under 8 Blacks were in action against Southport FC Yellows. It was a pleasing result. The goal scorers were Harry Brown, Tayo Popoola and Max Healey who scored a wonder goal. Teddy Marron also made some excellent tackles throughout the match.
FJSC Under 7 Whites played at home against Southport Athletic Reds. Man of the Match McEddy Osei Assibey scoring two early goals. Further goals followed from Kayden Dowdell who finished confidently. Southportthen scored following some confusion withFJSC not clearing their lines. McEddy Osei Assibey bagged two more goals through hard work and determination. Both Teddy Gillingham and Toby Woodcock were unlucky not to score in the second half. William Laugley took his opportunity to play on the wing and scored with a superbly driven shot into the corner. Edison Foy was moved into the centre forward role and his usual persistence paid off as he slotted past the Southport keeper to score a well taken goal. It was a dominant team display for this developing team.
