HM Coastguard Crosby were tasked to Formby beach on the morning of 23 February to assist with a search operation alongside Southport Coastguard Rescue Team.
During the search, the Crosby team came across a group of people who were on a sand bank and at risk of being cut off by the rapidly incoming tide.
Using their Argo ATV, the team were able to reach the group quickly and advise them to head back to safety before the water surrounded them. Thankfully, the situation was resolved safely.
After the search operation was completed, both teams were stood down.
This incident is an important reminder of just how quickly the tide can move in at Formby. Sand banks can appear safe, but access can disappear within minutes.
Please always check tide times before heading out and avoid walking too far from the main shoreline, especially when the tide is turning.
We thank HM Coastguard Crosby and Southport Coastguard Rescue Team for keeping our coastline safe.
