Altcar Road works – now rescheduled to start mid-July

The works on Altcar Road, originally due to start on Monday 30th June, have now been rescheduled to begin on Monday 14th July and will continue until Friday 15th August.

These works are being carried out by Cadent Gas, who are replacing old underground gas pipes with new plastic ones as part of a major upgrade to make the gas supply network safer and more environmentally friendly. During this time, multi-way traffic lights will be in operation on Altcar Road, and some homes may experience a temporary gas shut-off. Residents are advised that access to properties may be required, and Cadent’s on-site teams will provide more information as the works progress.

At the same time, Cadent will also be carrying out similar work on Alt Road, just off the Formby Bypass, between 14th July and 1st August. These works will also be controlled by multi-way signals, likely adding to congestion already caused by the Altcar Road works. With both roads affected at once, drivers should expect delays during peak hours and are encouraged to plan alternative routes where possible.

Meanwhile, roadworks on Liverpool Road are still ongoing and have now been extended again. Originally due to finish on 4th July, the works are now expected to continue until 11:59pm on Friday 11th July. These works are being undertaken by United Utilities Water and require a full road closure, causing significant disruption to local traffic. The works, which began back in May, are part of urgent maintenance and repairs, though specific details have not been provided by the utility company.

With Liverpool Road fully closed and Cadent’s gas replacement works soon to begin on both Altcar Road and Alt Road, residents and road users in Formby are being warned to expect severe delays throughout July and into August. School runs, commutes, and weekend travel will all be affected, and local businesses may also experience disruption from the restricted access and traffic management systems in place.
