It was Super Sunday for Formby Junior Sports Club as both the Under 12 Blacks and Under 13 Blacks win their Cup Finals at Southport FC’s Big Help Stadium.

CUP FINAL REPORTS
FJSC UNDER 12 BLACKS 1 CHURCHTOWN JAGUARS 0
FJSC Under 12 Blacks returned to the Big Help Stadium for the second year running in the Craven Minor League’s Joseph Jackson Cup this time against Churchtown Jaguars.
Both teams started strongly with the twomidfields determined to get control of the centre of the pitch in what was always going to be a tightly contested final. After fifteenminutes into the first half, Alfie Frost battled his way forward from midfield and played in Caden Walker on the right wing. Caden jinxed his way into the area and smashed a shot against the post which found its way to the very alert Isaac Jones who volleyed in the rebound to give FJSC a 1 nil lead.
The first half continued with Alex Barr, Louis O’Connor and Ben Webster marshalling the defence to limit Jags chances while Charlie Richardson’s non-stop running up front didnot allow the Churchtown players time to settle on the ball. FJSC held the slender leadgoing into the half time break.
The second half saw Sylvan O’Hara adding some battling legs in midfield while Ellis Coyne moved into defence to help with what FJSC knew would be the push from Jags to find an equaliser as they moved more players forward. Another tactical adjustment was made with FJSC changing to one upfront and adding the extra legs of Finley Scott into midfield to try and offset the Jags substitutes. FJSC created some chances which just couldn’t be taken under the pressure of a final.
Towards the end of the second half Jags eventually created their best chance of the match when a Churchtown shot from the edge of the area was goal bound only for a superb save being made by Oscar Phillips who managed to tip the shot around the cornermuch to the relief of his team mates.
Leo Fagan then entered the field to help the midfield further as the team continued to push for the cushion of a second goal which just wouldn’t come. The two teams battled well in a very exciting match and eventually FJSC saw out the game to claim a 1-0 win and the cup.
The FJSC team deserve so much credit to come back from the disappointment of losing the previous year’s final, to reach the final again and win the cup this year. As the very proud Management Team of Simon Walker, Mark O’Connor and Jarlath O’Hara said, “The whole team was determined, disciplined, willing to work for it, not taking short cuts or expecting other players to do the job for them.Every player in the squad, every one of them left it all on the field and deserved to lift the trophy. Well done boys.”
One hour later it was the turn of FJSC Under 13 Blacks to take centre stage at the Big Help Stadium. Could they make it a Cup Double for FJSC?
FJSC UNDER 13 BLACKS 4FLEETWOOD HESKETH 2
It was going to be a difficult task for FJSC Under 13 Blacks to defeat Fleetwood Heskeththe undefeated Premier League Champions in the Catherine Oldfield Cup Final. The FJSC team were certainly up for the task ahead and knew only a brilliant and disciplined performance would give them a chance of success.
FJSC started the match very confidently butagainst the run of play early in the first halffound themselves one goal down. Undeterred by this setback FJSC soon drew level at 1-1 when Ben Harris equalised. Playing well FJSC took the lead when Ben Harris struck again with a very important goal before half time. Unfortunately due to an injury Alastair Bosenquet was unable to continue the match.
Fleetwood Hesketh came back strongly in the second half and scored to level the score at 2-2. A very determined team effort was made by every FJSC player to overcome this change of fortune. Just when it was needed FJSC’s SebStevens struck a great shot from distance to score and give his team the lead again at 3-2. Player of the Match Ben Harris went on to claim his hat trick scoring FJSC’s fourth goalto put the game out of sight and seal the cupfor a jubilant FJSC.
Managers Paul Wood and Mark Wynne said after the game it was a brilliant performance to win the cup in style and the entire squad deserve all the praise in the world.
It had been a great day for Formby Junior Sports Club. Well done to all the boys and of course the managers and coaches who have worked so hard with the boys all season. It has been a long time since the club has won two cup finals on the same day. A day to remember.
