On the same weekend as Formby Junior Sports Club’s Under 5 team played their first ever competitive match there was great jubilation as two FJSC Under 12 teams became League Champions on the same morning.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
There was great excitement last Sunday for the brand new FJSC Under 5’s team when the boys played their first ever competitive match against another local club.
FJSC received an invitation from Crosby Stuart for an Under 5 team from the Inter Club Section to play in their first ever, competitive match. The much awaited match took place in Crosby last Sunday. All week the boys and their families were getting more and moreexcited about the game.
The big day finally arrived. Crosby Stuart started off well but after a few minutes the FJSC boys who were encouraged by parents and relatives settled into the match. Both teams scored a lot of goals during theentertaining match. The score was close but the most important aspect was the immense fun and enjoyment all the boys and the spectators had.
Many thanks to Crosby Stuart for hosting the match and it is hoped that a return match at Deansgate Lane will be arranged soon. See the photograph of the very excited boys before the match.
On Saturday morning it was the last round of matches in the Hightown Winter League Under 12 Competitions.
FJSC Under 12 Blacks won 9 nil against Silcox Vila to become Winter League Champions of the Championship Division. The Blacks won nine of their eleven matches. Congratulations to the squad on this marvellous achievement.
FJSC Under 12 Whites also became Winter League Champions of the Premier Division.
However the final match did not go to plan for the FJSC Whites team when they lost 1 nil to mid table Aintree Athletic. The Whites found themselves on equal points at the top of the division with Kingsway. Goal difference did not count to decide the winners. The outcome went on the head to head result of the league match with Kingsway. FJSC had fortunately won 2-1 in the match played earlier in the season so the Under 12 Whites were declared League Champions. To add to the excitement the result of the match between Kingsway and Muniflex also came into the permutations.Luckily for FJSC the result went in favour of Kingway who won 4-1. If Muniflex had won against Kingsway with FJSC Whites losing, Muniflex would have been champions. It certainly was a very exciting finale to a very closely contested division. Next the Spring Cup starts with another thrilling competition expected. Congratulations to FJSC Under 12 Whites but commiserations to Kingway and Muniflex who chased FJSC all the way.
FJSC Under 15 Blacks played their first match for several weeks and earned a hard fought 1-1 draw away against Clay Brow in the West Lancashire Junior League Cup. The first half was very tight with few chances created and the defences of both teams coming out on top. Against the run of play, Clay Brow took the lead just before half time with a header from a corner.
In the second half the game opened up and Ben Cargill came close to scoring, having been set up by Maison Lambert. The breakthrough came from a penalty, as Ollie Dean was fouled in the box and Sami Abdelhamid stepped up confidently and placed his shot in the bottom corner. Player of the Match was Ethan Tucker who alongside the other defenders showed great strength and pace throughout the game, to keep it tight at the back.
FJSC Under 14 Whites produced their best performance of the season against runawayundefeated league leaders Southport Athletic . FJSC took a shock lead but Athletic soon equalised and then scored again to go ahead. Will Rawsthorne’s powerful run and finish gave FJSC a second goal. The Whites continued to show fight and determination all game but Southport Athletic held firm and scored two more goals to win 4-2.
Luca Duncalf and Bobby Friar were excellentin midfield. Man of the Match was Dylan Hyslop who showed leadership, was solid throughout and vocally gave much confidence to his team mates. FJSC Manager Andy Hyslop was very proud of his team’s efforts.
FJSC Under 14 Blacks Saturday team played very well against a very resilient FCN Yellow. The pitch surface after all the bad weather made it difficult for the Blacks to play their fast flowing football but the boys stillmanaged to combine well.
Goalkeeper Ben Gregory deserves specialmention for good decision making in distribution, playing short when possible and also for making an outstanding save midway through the second half having not had much to do until that point. It was good to welcomeback Fabian Reilly and Reuben Burke into the team. Fabian scored twice and Reuben provided two assists in the 5-1 victory. Sebastian Burdett also scored a brace and Zak Healey was also on the scoresheet with a goal. The Man of the Match award was shared
between Joe Tucker who was very assured in a defence and Zak Healy who had an excellent match.
On Sunday the FJSC Under 14 Blacks playedthe very talented league leaders Liver FC. The Blacks as nearly all the teams in the division found Liver too hot to handle and although they tried very hard FJSC succumbed to a 5 nil defeat. Man of the Match was Joe Tucker. Also playing well were Sebastian Burdett-Clarke, Connor Howells and Jenson Heron.
FJSC Under 13 Blacks Saturday team went into the second group game of the Premier Cup looking to make it six points out of six against Town Green. Little was created by either side in the first half meant at half time the score was 0-0. FJSC started the second half well for the first ten minutes but then their performance level dropped off and Town Green took the lead with fifteen minutes to go. As FJSC pushed for an equaliser, Town Green secured the win with their second goal of the match.
FJSC Under 13 Blacks Sunday team went into their important league game knowing a winagainst Redgate Rovers would put them in a good position near to the top of the Premier League. After a solid start FJSC missed twogood chances to take the lead in the first fiveminutes which was to prove very costly. Unfortunately it ended up being a game of missed opportunities for FJSC as Redgate Rovers scored to make it 1-0 in the first half. FJSC started the second half strongly againbut an impressive performance from theRedgate Rovers midfield saw them add a second and then third goal to complete a well-deserved 3 nil win.
It was a setback for the Blacks but with all the top teams including FJSC Blacks all within a few points of each other, a thrilling end to the season is expected with quite a few matches still to be played.
FJSC Under 13 Whites found themselves 5 nil down at half time to Southport FC. After a reset at half time FJSC were much the strongerteam in the second half and staged a brilliant revival scoring four goals without reply with two goals from Matthew Crutchley and one goal each from Albie Salter and Will Gregory. FJSC came close to drawing level at 5-5 but time ran out. As the saying goes it was “a match of two halves.”
On a cool spring morning, FJSC Under 10 Blacks faced Southport Trinity Yellow in a challenging encounter that ultimately finishedin Trinity’s favour. Southport Trinity started sharply and took an early lead, but the first half remained a competitive contest. FJSC battled well, creating several opportunities of their own while defending resolutely. Strong goalkeeping and determined defensive work helped keep Trinity at bay for long spells, but a second goal before the break meant Trinity went into half-time with a 2–0 advantage.
Despite the deficit, FJSC were still very much in the game and hopeful of mounting a comeback in the second half. However, the momentum shifted after the restart. Trinity found another gear, combining clinical finishing with sustained attacking pressure. A mixture of FJSC complacency and Trinity’s increased firepower saw further goals added to the score line. To their credit, the Formby players continued to work hard and pushed forward in search of consolation goals, but they were unable to find a breakthrough.
FJSC Under 9 Reds continued their league fixtures against Churchtown Athletic. The first half started well for the Reds with Isaac Kamel and Ray Burkett combining well. The first half had few clear cut chances for either side but Isaac Kamel’s persistence in closing down the opposition resulted in a clinical goal from the Reds forward.
The second half continued in the same vein with chances few and far between with each side giving away little in the defensive third. It took a bit of magic from Isaac Kamel to further extend the Reds lead with a goal scored after a jinky run. Ed Makinsoncontinued his excellent form in his Libero role and he nearly capped off his day with a twenty-five yard free kick which theChurchtown keeper did well to turn round the post. The Reds repelled a late comeback from Churchtown and thoroughly deserved their victory.
FJSC Under 8 Blacks produced a good team display against Southport and Ainsdale Blues. Ollie Jones, Tayo Popoola, Harry Brown and Man of the Match Max Healey all scored.
FJSC Under 7 Whites played a well organised Hesketh Bank team and were quickly on the back foot and conceded a number of early goals. In the second half FJSC played betterand limiting Hesketh Bank to just a few goals. Unfortunately the Whites missed lots of opportunities in front of goal which would have evened the game. Eventually FJSC did get on to the score sheet with an own goal from Hesketh Bank followed by another FJSCgoal with a strike from McEddy Osei Assibey.
FJSC Under 6 Whites and FJSC Under 6 Blacks continued playing their weekly fixtures in the Sefton and Knowsley Development League at Goals in Netherton.
