44 Beach Angels, One Beautiful Coastline and Nine Incredible Years of Keeping Formby Clean

For nine incredible years, the Formby and Freshfield Beach Litter Angels have been quietly giving their time, energy and dedication to help protect our beautiful coastline, and once again, they have shown exactly why they are such a treasured part of our community.

On Tuesday 7th July, an amazing 44 volunteers came together for another hugely successful litter pick, collecting numerous bags of rubbish from across Formby Beach and the surrounding areas.

These wonderful volunteers ask for nothing in return. They simply turn up, roll up their sleeves and work tirelessly to protect a place that means so much to all of us. From long-standing supporters who have been there since the very beginning to new faces and young volunteers joining for the first time, every single person is helping to send a powerful message: littering is not acceptable, and our beautiful coastline deserves to be respected.

Numerous bags of litter were collected during the event, with many left at designated marker posts for the National Trust to collect the following day, while the remaining bags were carried back to the car park.

The event was supported by admin team members Tracy, Nigel and Heather, with Steve Kyffin and Louise Kyffin also stepping in to help. A huge thank you to them all for helping to make the event such a success.

With another very hot and busy weekend expected, Formby Beach is likely to welcome huge numbers of visitors and, sadly, experience shows that rubbish is often left behind.

A dispersal zone is currently in place around the Victoria Road area until Monday, with an increased police presence aimed at preventing a repeat of the problems experienced during the previous spell of hot weather.

The brilliant Rage Against Rubbish Formby team will also be out on both Saturday and Sunday, meeting visitors, handing out rubbish bags and explaining what is expected of everyone visiting our beautiful coastline.

Any help from the community would be hugely appreciated. Simply message Nigel or Steve, or turn up at Formby car park and look for the Beach Litter Angels sign. All support and guidance will be provided, and everyone is welcome to get involved.
