Formby Manor raises cash for Clatterbridge Cancer Care

Residents and staff at Formby Manor Care Centre on Liverpool Road in Formby have raised more than £560 for Liverpool’s Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.

Despite lockdown and the recent restrictions due the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the care home and its residents were determined to support their local cancer care organisation and have worked hard over the last few months to raise the cash.

The money was raised through a series of events including a super Wear It Pink Day where everyone at the care centre wore something pink in support of the charity and enjoyed a pink-themed afternoon tea with cakes and bakes.

The cash will go towards helping to transform cancer care across Merseyside and Cheshire, now and for many generations to come. The charity has recently opened its state-of-the-art new hospital which aims to further enhance the delivery of cancer care across the region and the money raised by the Formby Manor team will help to fund research, equipment and the best environment for more people in the future.

Community fundraising manager for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, Katie Lawson, said: “Thank you so much to the fantastic residents and staff team at Formby Manor. £566.44 is an incredible amount to raise in difficult circumstances and we are grateful for the support that will help us continue to offer vital cancer support services across this region.

“Merseyside is one of the worst affected regions for cancer and survival rates, the new hospital and improvements across our centres will help to save more than 700 lives annually. Formby Manor’s kind donation will help us help even more people.”

Registered manager at Formby Manor, Debra Roose, added: “Our residents are always keen to support good causes locally, and Clatterbridge has become a popular choice as almost all of us know someone who has been affected by cancer at some point.

“Our home is a vibrant, active and warm community of happy and engaged residents who firmly believe that they can still make a difference. We’re delighted that the cash that we have raised will be of help to Clatterbridge and look forward to raising more funds in the future.”

A cheque for the funds was presented to Katie Lawson by the residents at Formby Manor, who have received a personal thank you letter, certificate and special edition 2020 medal depicting the new cancer hospital in Liverpool as keepsakes for their efforts.
