Formby Junior Sports Club - Franks report 25/11/19
FJSC Under 9 Blacks became the fourth FJSC Representative team to reach a cup semi-final this season. On Sunday the team produced a very good performance and won 5 nil against Burscough Dynamo Black in the quarter final of the Craven Minor Under 9 Shield. The first half saw FJSC kick off and push forward from the start, having lots of possession but few chances as Burscough defended well. The Blacks showed lots of energy, skill and commitment but it was a close first half and at half time neither team had scored. In the second half, FJSC started the stronger and Patrick Fleming broke the deadlock with a long range shot, which went in at the far corner. Ollie Dean then scored a second from the penalty spot after a handball. Three further goals were scored with Lewis Donoghue scoring twice and Thomas Donnelly also on target with a goal. Burscough had their chances too but were thwarted by some good defending, a bit of luck on Formby’s part and some brave goalkeeping from Robert Gorman. Man of the match was Patrick Fleming. FJSC Under 9 Blacks will play Southport Trinity Blue in the semi-final later in the season. FJSC Under 18 Girls bounced back in style after last week’s first defeat of the season with a resounding 12 nil win over Fillies in the West Lancs Youth Division. The score sheet included a rare triple hat trick for the FJSC team. Ellie Brewer got Formby off to a flier with a brilliant run and left foot strike, then went on to complete a hat trick, as did Sam Cawley and Anna Rutherford. Charlotte Doyle turned sharply and went through a gap for her goal. Ana Waite finished neatly for hers and Rachelle Douras-Hanlon added one also. The result keeps the Under 18’s in pole position. Blackpool who are still to drop any points, are in second place with games in hand but have to play FJSC twice in the next few weeks. FJSC Under 15 Blacks played unbeaten league leaders Rainford Rangers Real. Lucas Gornall gave FJSC the lead but Rainford equalised. The Blacks then went into a 2-1 lead with one of the best goals of the season to date. After some great play by Gerard Broomfield down the flank his superb cross was met with a full length diving header from Andy Kimmance. The ball flew into the Rainford net for a spectacular goal. FJSC continued to play well but Rainford came back very strongly to win 4-2. Next week FJSC play Rainford again in the first leg of their quarter-final cup tie. FJSC Under 14 Whites were also in action against Rainford Rangers Real. After narrowly losing the previous two matches this season against Rainford, FJSC turned the tables on their opponents this time with a very impressive 3-1 victory. Some excellent saves by FJSC’s Ben Marsh in goal was the difference between the two teams. There were lots of chances for both teams. FJSC dominated the first half and Rainford Rangers the second. There were two superb goals from Luke Honour and a very composed strike from Samuel Colbourne. It was a much-needed win for the Under 14’s. FJSC Under 14 Blacks having played and defeated Phoenix twice during the last two weeks in the cup could not make it three wins in a row. Seven players of the FJSC squad were unavailable due to illness. The depleted squad tried their best but Phoenix were just a little stronger on the day and ran out 4-1 winners. Next Saturday the Blacks will be hoping to have all their squad fit again as they play FJSC Whites. FJSC Under 12 Blacks produced a good battling performance against Southport and Ainsdale and the scoreline doesn’t really portray how the game went. It was an evenly matched start with both teams creating chances with S. and A. just on top. Finlay Clarke played well and marshalled the defence with Joe Finnegan and Isaac Bird who also had good games. Ollie Shaw worked hard up front and Ed Poole was busy in midfield. S. and A took the lead with a fine finish after fifteen minutes and the rest of the half was very even. Unfortunately a late break away goal saw S. and A. finish the half 2 nil up. The second half was equally competitive with a few stern challenges going in. As a result of one, Oscar Fletcher took a free kick and rattled the cross bar from a long distance out and was very unlucky not to have scored. Formby continued to miss their chances, while S. and A. were quite clinical with theirs and scored two more goals to record a 4 nil win. Nevertheless it was a good performance, the boys battled well and James Foster, Alfie Finney, and Jude Williams to their credit kept going to the end. FJSC Under 10 Saturday team played Active Soccer Yellows. It was a tough match for the two teams. Active Soccer took the lead with a great goal from outside the box. Andres Funes- Cervera scored shortly afterwards to level the score. The second half was also very closely contested with Charlie Garvey scoring for FJSC. Man of the match was Freddie Garvey. FJSC Under 10 Blacks played Freshfield FC on Sunday. The two teams were evenly matched for most of the game. Freddie Garvey scored two headed goals from corners. Charlie Garvey was also on the score sheet with one goal. Joint players of the match were Archie Ogden and Charlie Garvey. FJSC Under 9 Whites played FC Diamond for the first time and it was a very entertaining encounter. After going behind to an early free kick the Whites managed to get back in front at half fine after two very well taken goals were scored by Harry Nelson. FJSC conceded early in the second half with Thomas Szabo going off injured but after ten minutes on the bench he came back on and scored within seconds. Harry Nelson then completed his hat-trick. It was a brilliant all-round team performance but man of the match was Ezra Sutton for a very solid defensive display. FJSC Under 7’s produced a very determined and very good performance against Phoenix Aces. The Under 7’s found themselves two goals down but came back strongly into the game with goals from Hughie MacLeod and man of the match George Hayes. FJSC Under 6’s despite a number of squad members missing due to illness still managed to put out three teams on Sunday. The stand out performance of the day was by the FJSC boys in the first match against Maghull. Thomas Crutchley, Joshua Halpin and Rory Rankine all took advantage of the chances being created for them and scored a number of goals. It was a real joy to watch as the boys passed the ball out from the back and involved all the players in the build-ups. Josh Tallon had a brilliant game in midfield along with Rory Rankine both of whom put in some great tackles and defensive work. In FJSC’s second game also against Maghull another strong start was made. Goals from Mason Stringer, Diego Funes-Cervera and Joshua Halpin put FJSC in control for the first half of the match. One of the highlights of the game was a great save in goal by Jude Massey. Max McAuley put in a superb individual performance and was man of the match. Maghull came back into the match in the final third of the game. FJSC’s third match of the morning was against a strong ESC side. Finn McDerby and Joseph Kenyon both scored. Man of the match was Parker Kehoe. Jaiden Crosby and Oliver Hall-Gleeson produced battling performances in another pleasing team effort. INTER CLUB SECTION There was a very good attendance in all age groups at Inter Club. Reception and Year One Boys had very active coaching sessions. This was followed by friendly games. The standard of football being played shows continued improvement as the boys are gaining more confidence. The Year Two/Three boys’ session was well attended with new members settling into the group. There were two very entertaining and high scoring matches in the Year 4/5 and 6 Division with the attendance once again very encouraging. Twenty-six goals were scored in the two matches played with wins for Hotspurs (Blues) and Leopards (Greens). The Girls in the Year Three, Four and Five continue to improve their skills and had another enjoyable game.
