Redrow shares £5,000 donation with 10 Formby groups

As part of the ongoing community engagement with areas close to where it builds, Redrow has supported 10 good causes in and around Formby in association with its Sanderling Park development.

Help has been extended to a mix of schools, sports teams, charities and community based projects all designed to help others.

Lesley Myers, sales manager at Redrow’s Lancashire division, says: “It’s so important that we invest in the local communities so they can continue to benefit numerous generations. We don’t just build and then leave, we want to ensure we support neighbourhood projects that have positive impacts now and in the future. We had lots of applications and have tried our best to help as many people as possible.”

Sanderling Park will create a total of 99 homes, offering a choice of two, three and four-bedroom family homes and apartments. Due to complete in early 2021, the development will include 31 affordable homes.

Redrow’s fund is a voluntary commitment over and above the S106 community benefits that were agreed as part of the planning process. These include a contribution of up to £90,000 to Sefton Council to undertake improvements to the local footpath network that is part of the national cycle network. Work will include reconstruction the surface to increase usability and improve accessibility and safety for the community. Redrow is also creating over six acres of open space.

The beneficiaries of the community fund are:

  • St Luke’s CE Primary School

  • Formby Community FC

  • Freshfield Fitness

  • Red Box Project

  • Formby Befriending Scheme

  • Formby Hockey Club

  • West Lancs and Merseyside Myeloma Support Group

  • Formby Civic Society

  • Formby Stormers Ladies Running Group & Formby Mini Stormers

  • Woodlands Primary School

Mark Pickering, Treasurer and Steering Group member of Formby Befriending Scheme, says: “The Formby Befriending Scheme offers companionship and support to older people who have become isolated or who are no longer able to get out as much as they used to. We host a monthly coffee club to provide a regular meeting place for our members and others who perhaps live alone or simply want to make new friends; so, as a small local charity, we're very grateful for Redrow's support. We can now provide more appropriate seating to improve the comfort of the older people attending our coffee clubs, many of whom are frail with reduced mobility.”
