See the past, present and future of health care in Sefton for NHS70

As part of celebrations for the 70th birthday of the National Health Service, people across Sefton can find out about the past, present and future of health care and medicines. The 70th anniversary on Thursday 5 July 2018 is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the achievements of one of the nation’s most loved institutions and to appreciate the vital role the service plays in our lives. It is also a time to recognise and thank the extraordinary NHS staff – the everyday heroes – who are there to guide, support and care for us, day in, day out. Staff from the NHS South Sefton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and NHS Southport and Formby CCG Medicines Management Team will be visiting local Asda supermarkets to talk to local people about both the history and the future of medicines. The team will be in: Asda Bootle on Thursday 5 July, 10.00am - 2.00pm Asda Southport on Monday 9 July, 10.00am - 2.00pm. People will also be given the opportunity to sign up to become members of the CCGs which will allow them to be kept up to date on local healthcare. Celebrations for the NHS milestone birthday are taking place up and down the country over the next week, recognising the achievements of the NHS over the last seven decades. Around 3,000 NHS staff from across the country are expected to attend the national ceremonies at York Minster and Westminster Abbey, alongside representatives of charities, councils, and other key partners who work with the NHS. Faye Sefton and Becky Kelly, both from the communications and engagement team at the CCGs will attend the event at York Minster. Becky Kelly, communications and engagement officer at the CCGs, said: “It’s a real honour to be representing the CCGs in York Minster. “I’m looking forward to meeting other NHS staff from across the country and to share our stories about the health service.” Faye Sefton, digital communications and engagement officer at the CCGs, said: “Coming from a family of NHS workers I’m honoured to be a part of the NHS70 celebrations. “I see the amazing contributions which staff make across Merseyside, and I’m looking forward to being part of sharing the achievements made by the service over the past 70 years.” Fiona Taylor, chief officer of the CCGs, said: “I’m delighted that Becky and Faye will be representing the CCGs in York. “I’m also looking forward to representing the CCGs at Westminster Abbey, along with PA Michelle McNulty. It is fantastic that the NHS is taking the opportunity to recognise the work of our staff, patients and partners. “Without them we wouldn’t be able to make decisions on planning and buying local health services that are truly responsive to the needs of our communities and it’s a good time to thank and appreciate them for all that they do.” Sir Malcolm Grant, NHS England chairman, said: “The NHS’s 1.5m staff work hard every day to keep the people of this country well and they deserve to be celebrated. We want to say a huge thank you for all the hard work and extra effort our staff have contributed over the last 70 years – without you we wouldn’t be the world class service we are today.” For more information about the birthday celebrations, including local events, visit: www.nhs70.nhs.uk
