Sefton Residents Asked to Share NHS Memories for 70th Anniversary

Health commissioners in Sefton are encouraging former NHS employees and members of the public to share their memories of the health service to commemorate the organisations 70th anniversary.

The NHS was born on the 5th July 1948 and an online digital archive is being compiled to form the first UK wide archive of NHS history. Officials from NHS South Sefton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and NHS Southport and Formby CCG are keen to ensure that residents in the borough don’t miss the opportunity to share their NHS stories with future generations.

Speaking about the 70th anniversary, Fiona Taylor, chief officer of both CCGs, said: “The NHS is one of our most loved institutions and what makes it so special is the people. We really want to hear from staff, past and present, and patients who have fond memories of our local NHS. Although anyone can contribute, we’re particularly keen to hear from people who were employed by the NHS 70 years ago and those who were born in an NHS hospital in 1948.”

Once collated, the stories will be added to the national digital archive which will go live later this year. People interested in sharing their memories about the NHS should email and include contact details.
