A team of athletes from Formby High made history after winning the North West finals of the English School’s Cross Country Cup.
The six boys from Year 8 clinched victory in the regional event in Sedbergh, Cumbria, earlier in November - beating teams from Greater Manchester, Cumbria, Merseyside and Lancashire.
The achievement meant they became the first team from Formby High to qualify for the national final, held at Sevenoaks School, Kent, last Saturday (25 November).
They came home in a credible 13th position out of 27 schools – a feat made more impressive in a line up made up mainly of boys’ independent or grammar schools.
Coach Karyn Hannaway, said: “I’m extremely proud of the team and the hard work they have put in on their journey to the national final.
“There were more than 580 schools in the competition at the outset, with many schools bringing dozens of athletes to the heats, but these six friends have packed together in all their races to achieve some great results. Well done boys…and keep on running!”
