The Rotary Club of Formby has had a busy couple of weeks

The Rotary Club of Formby has had a busy couple of weeks. The President brought his successful presidential year to an end, when he handed over the chain of office to incoming President, George Rodda, who is to quote George, our first recycled President! This being his second term as President! George's first duty that night was to present club member Simon Matthews with a Paul Harris Fellowship award. This award is the highest one Rotary can make and is presented to those Rotarians who have served Rotary above and beyond what would normally be expected. Whilst Simon has been a Rotarian he has served the club as President, he has also been secretary, treasurer and chairman of the clubs committees. He also supported the Clubs work in Ruanda, raising funds to support a community which had suffered badly from the genocide there. He is now in charge of our 50th Anniversary project in Nepal, raising funds to rebuild a school severely damaged in the earthquake. Congratulations to Simon on achieving this award!

The handover night took place at The Pinewoods, where club members, family and friends enjoyed a tasty meal. Later on in the evening The Vikings skiffle group came along to entertain us all. Peter is a member of the group although he was given a night off as it was his special evening. The Vikings took this opportunity to revamp some of their repertoire to take account of Peter's activities as President! They weren't too rude about him! In the next few weeks the club is visiting the Williamson Tunnels with Maghull and Aughton Rotary Club, playing croquet at Southport Croquet Club and trying their hand at Archery at Hurlston Hall Golf Club. We would love to welcome new members to the Club. If you would like to come along to a meeting and see what Rotary is about please visit our website to arrange a visit. You'll be assured a warm welcome. We meet most Tuesdays at Formby Hall Golf Club. We can be found at www.formby.rotary1180.org. Or contact the Secretary, Jeff Howard
