The sheep are back at National Trust Formby!
Hebrideans 16. Herdwicks 1
The sheep are back! Thanks to our near neighbour’s, The Lancashire Wildlife Trust, we are now ‘hosting 17 sheep on the large Sheep Field close to the Asparagus Trail.
They come for the season to help keep the long grass under control allowing the dune flowers to flourish. Information panels around the field tell you about Arnie, the white Herdwick who is half Herdwick and half Hebridean and his friend, DuckySpike, the four horned Hebridean.
Learn even more at Rob the Ranger’s special Grazing Grasslands session between 10am to 12noon on Monday 20th June at the Field. Find out about how sheep help us to look after this place and why we graze them here. All ages welcome, the short route from our information trailer is fully accessible. Guide dogs only as the sheep are likely to be 'spooked' by any dogs. Places are limited so please only book a free ticket if you're sure you can come. Bookings and more details on the website.
