M&S help give The Daisy Chain in Formby a revamp

The Daisy Chain is The Sefton Cancer Support Group for Formby and is a registered charity, which has been based in Sefton for 25 years.

M&S Formby have sponsored The Daisy Chain to help raise money for their good cause. On Tuesday 6th June, a team from M&S kindly went along to the centre on Duke Street to help give the place a revamp.

Ann Parker who volunteers at the Daisy Chain said: "Sam and her team from M&S came for the day to paint the walls and put new pictures up. They also gave us new crockery and lots of other accessories to brighten up our centre. A great big thankyou to Sam and all the team at M&S for all your continued help and support."

"Talented local artist Holly Bushnell painted the most fantastic picture to brighten up the main wall in the centre so thanks so much to Holly as well."

The Daisy Chain are desperate for more volunteers to help man the centre which is open from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday. Although no formal qualifications are needed, good listening, communications and basic recoed keeping skills would be advantageous. Full training will be given to the successful applicants. If you have a few hours to spare each week, why not give them to a worthwhile cause. Anyone interested, please call 01704 879 352 or email: hello@seftoncancersupport.org.uk

The Daisy Chain is partly funded by the North and South Clinical Commissioning Groups. A spokesman for the Daisy Chain said: "We try to fill the gap that exists before and after diagnosis, when the shock hits you and your feelings are such that you cannot cope, or know who to turn to, when you feel you cannot talk to your family or friends. After discharge from hospital care there is a void when the professionals’ have discharged you. Who now cares for you, who can you continue your recovery with?"

"We try and meet those needs but can signpost you to other voluntary groups/professionals if this seems to be more appropriate."

"We recognise not all clients will survive their diagnosis but still deserve to have the best possible quality of life, including at the end of life. It is crucial that people are treated as individuals, with compassion, dignity and respect throughout."

"The Support Group is available as a resource for information, financial advice, advocacy and support. We also offer the opportunity to take you away for a short time, from the stress of dealing with cancer, providing aromatherapy and hot stones massage, relaxation, acupuncture, chiropody, reflexology, and reiki to help you unwind and re-energise you. You can make new friends and socialise over coffee and light lunches, we also have a full social programme of bi-monthly group lunches and day trips to places of interest or the theatre."

"For those who need a human voice to talk to especially at night, an out of hours hours helpline is open and manned whenever we can."
