Large fire at Seaforth Docks is still ongoing since Friday night

Firefighters continue to tackle the large fire at Seaforth docks which has now been ongoing since Friday night 21st October when 6 fire appliances and an aerial unit were deployed to a scrap metal recycling facility at Seaforth docks to tackle the large fire. Crews were alerted at 11.20pm and were on the scene at 11.29pm. Firefighters will be working with staff from the recycling facility from around 10.00am this morning - Sunday 23rd October, to break up the remaining scrap pile with cranes and diggers. This is part of the plan to enable access to the seat of the fire from above using aerial appliances. Breaking up the fire in this way will result in a significant increase in fire and smoke temporarily but will enable firefighters to access the remaining seat of the fire to extinguish it. The public should be aware that there may be an increase in the smell of smoke and if so residents should stay inside and close windows and doors.
