Turn Your Time Into Care

Marie Curie is seeking volunteers from the Formby, Hightown and Ince Blundell area to join a new local fundraising group to raise money to care for local people living with a terminal illness, and turn their spare time into Nursing Care.

Local fundraiser Antony Jones is holding an informal meeting at Little Lilac Coffee House and Tea Bar, 44 Brows Lane in Formby on Thursday 28 July at 6pm to explain more. He said: “The meeting is open to all, so please do come along and find out more about our groups, and how they support the charity locally. “The great thing about our groups is that you can support in a way that suits you, whether you enjoy baking cakes, organising events, or are a whizz with numbers, there really is something to suit everyone.”

Vicky Hall is the local Marie Curie shop manager, she said, ‘Volunteering is a really sociable and enjoyable way to give a few spare hours to help raise money for such a worthwhile cause. My husband volunteers as a collecting tin volunteer. He fits this around all the other commitments we have in our daily lives, but he finds it so rewarding to know that he’s giving something back.”

Antony said: “Marie Curie is here for people living with any terminal illness and their families. Our support and information services offer expert guidance and support to help people get the most from the time they have, through giving trusted information on everything from symptom management and day to day care to financial information and legal issues. Our trained experts also give emotional support when our patients and their families just need to talk.”

The new fundraising group will hold small local events that suit the interests of members, and get involved in the charity’s campaigns like the Blooming Great Tea Parties, and Great daffodil Appeal. The group will complement Marie Curie’s presence in the Formby area currently provided by the charity’s local shop and their activities.

Antony is keen to speak to anyone who would like to know more, he added: “The support our local fundraising groups provide is absolutely invaluable, the money they raise enable our nurses to continue providing care and support through terminal illness for our patients, and support for their families.” We need a variety of people who can offer different skills and experiences.

You might be great at organising small or large events. You might be good with money and figures, you might be able to take minutes, or put a collection rota together, or be happy to speak in public about the service that Marie Curie provides. Whatever your skills are, we can help you to turn them into funds for Marie Curie.”

If you’d like to know more about this opportunity, or would like to attend the meeting at the end of July please call Antony for an informal chat on 0151 801 1412 or email antony.jones@mariecurie.org.uk
