The Mayor is to officially launch the new Wetherspoons Lifeboat tomorrow - Tuesday 12th July

The Mayor of Sefton, Cllr Iain Brodie Browne will officially launch the new Lifeboat in Formby tomorrow. That is the new £2.1m development by J.D.Wetherspoons on Three Tuns Lane.

The former Conservative Club was named The Lifeboat by members of the public due to Formby being home to the very first Lifeboat station in the UK.

The staff are working hard training for the big opening on Tuesday 12th July at 8am. The pub will feature a main bar, dining room and terrace. They will be serving breakfasts every day until 12noon with special club deals on each day.

Manageress, Ashleigh Briscoe, has taken on 76 staff for the Formby bar. Ashleigh said: "the staff I have taken on are bar and kitchen and are a mixture of full time, part time and under 18s. We will be open from 8am to 11:30pm Sunday to Wednesday and 8am to midnight Thursday to Saturday.

Our food menu will be the same as other Wetherspoon's but, we will just have a slightly different drinks selection, offering a wide range of craft beer."

She went on to say: "The Lifeboat will be a community and family pub. I am really looking forward to opening and meeting the customers in Formby."

Formby was home to the very first Lifeboat station in the country. Reg and Barbara Yorke, who are Formby residents and members of Formby Civic Society, said: "Nothing could have a stronger Formby connection than naming it 'The Lifeboat'. It would be a great way of remembering the gallant Formby men who risked (and sometimes lost) their lives helping save the lives of others at Formby Point from 1776 - 1918. Pubs these days like to show they are proud of their location."

Pictures adorn the walls of the new pub reflecting a Formby maritime history to be proud of. The remarkable transformation from the original building is a wow feature and the classic, homely, warm family feel to the decor and furniture can only be a huge assett for this new venture in one of Formby's most historic buildings.

The Mayor is expected to do the official launch at 6pm on Tuesday evening 12th July.
