FJSC U14s played in the Bispham Junior Football Federation Annual Tournament on Saturday.
The girls enjoyed playing at this well organised tournament, that brings 129 girls football teams together, to play on well presented pitches in a 7-a-side format.
The girls started well against Doncaster Belles and were winning through a well taken Charlotte Doyle goal, until a last second equaliser from the Belles made it a 1-1 draw.
They then lost the next game before winning 4 on the run to finish equal top of the group.
Hannah Fraser won the ball back for Formby many times and was unlucky not to score due to one acrobatic save.
Connie Gabriel, Megan Houston and Nanci Farley defended with courage and skill and Olivia Mulvey made several key saves to keep the oppositions' tally of goals down to 2 in six games.
Nina Macy covered a lot of ground on a very hot day and made several mazy runs through opposition defences.
Ellie Brewer harried and took on her opposite number well to cause them difficulties too.
Goals were scored by Sophie Dixon (4) Charlotte Doyle (3) and Ellie Brewer (1).
The crunch match was against the well fancied Brazil girls but Formby played with pace and intelligence to win 1-0 through a goal from Sophie Dixon.
The Brazil girls then went on to beat top of the group Doncaster Belles, which meant Formby had to win their final group match v Washington Wildcats to progress through the group stage, but they did this in style, finishing level on points with Doncaster.
The girls lost their semi-final to what looked like a fresher team from Curzon Ashton but went home happy, having achieved a great deal and having played a lot of good football, on a hot day in Blackpool.
