FRANK'S REPORT 8 Feb, 2016
Formby Junior Sports Club’s Inter Club Section was once again transferred from the waterlogged Deansgate Lane Playing Fields to the artificial but always fit 3G pitches at Formby Play Sport.
Once again there was a very good attendance of one hundred and fifty children despite persistent rain throughout the morning. It is now five weekends in succession that Sefton have had to call off all play and training sessions. Including matches cancelled throughout December due to severe storms and Christmas, it is now over two months since there has been football played at Deansgate Lane. The rainfall has been unprecedented.
FJSC once again thanks Hugh McAuley at Formby Play Sport for making the 3G’s available for our very appreciative Inter Club members. Arrangements have already been made for Saturday 13th February’s Inter Club to be once again held at FPS.
For all the club’s Representative teams it has been an extremely difficult time with the only chance of a fixture being an away match on a fit pitch or a match played on an artificial surface.
Only five Representative teams managed to play at the weekend. Many other teams had matches cancelled as more overnight rain ruined the chance of a game. This included the Liverpool County FA Cup match for FJSC Under 13’s United at Smithy Green on Saturday morning and all the Hightown Girls’ League matches on Sunday.
FJSC Under 9’s played Southport and Ainsdale Reds and had a good result. Man of the match Jacob Heaney, Sam Mycek, Oliver Mercer, Dominic Hamilton, Jake Bellemey and Oliver Charnock were all scorers. Ioannis Kardoulias, Martin Melyov, Ernie Weights and goalkeeper Daniel Green all played well as the entire squad was given a chance to have some valuable game time.
Liam Kirk, Harry Lofthouse and Thomas Dent were all on the scoresheet for FJSC Under 7 Blacks in a high scoring but very close match with Redgate Green.
FJSC Under 10 Blacks played Crosby Stuart in the cup. The long layoff seemed to affect the Blacks more than their opponents. Man of the match was defender Ben Hough. Alex Gunn and Callum Williams defended well. Tom Rimmer played well in attack and also covered well in defence. Harry Knowles made some strong attacking surges.
FJSC Under 8’s were also in action but despite playing well at times succumbed to a lively Churchtown Pumas. Man of the match was Lewis Parker.
With Blackpool’s pitch unfit the FJSC Under 13 Girls’ played on a neutral 3G pitch at Edge Hill University in Ormskirk. Unfortunate illness before the match to FJSC goalkeeper caused enforced changes. Blackpool took full advantage and went on to win 5 nil. Had a number of near misses from FJSC’s Molly Graham, Lily Hamilton and Josie McIver gone in there might have been a closer scoreline. Well done to Olivia Mulvey and Lauren Carr for answering the call for help and coming to the immediate rescue of the stricken team. This superb response and effort by the girls and their parents at extremely short notice clearly shows the close bond and team spirit of this team.
At Inter Club it was goals galore as shots peppered the goal nets all morning. Last Saturday, but not including the Years 5/6 Boys Section, 189 goals were scored by 82 different goal scorers.

SPECIAL COACHING SESSION
The FJSC girls were delighted to have a guest coach on Saturday morning at Formby Play Sport. News travelled fast when the girls were told that Everton Ladies FC’s, 2015 Player of the Year, Simone Magill was coming along to take a coaching session.
Although originally intended for the Year 8 and 9 Girls a few extra girls from various age groups (including Under 10’s and Under 16’s) heard the news and arrived early before their Inter Club session. The Northern Ireland International striker was delighted to see such enthusiasm from the FJSC girls. It was a great session. Simone was assisted by male coach Sam. The two visiting coaches put the girls through a number of drills including shooting practice. The two very agile goalkeepers Rachel Robinson and Olivia Mulvey were kept very busy. All the girls thoroughly enjoyed the session. FJSC would like to say “A big thank you ” to Simone and Sam.
LUCKY MASCOTS AT EVERTON LADIES CUP TIE
FJSC were invited to send children to be mascots for the Everton Ladies Third Round Cup Tie against Stoke City Ladies last Sunday at The Select Security Stadium, Halton, near Widnes.
Eleven children took part and wore either the famous blue shirts of Everton or the red and white stripes of Stoke City and of course incidently of FJSC Girls.
The children did the club proud and were very well supported by parents, relatives and friends. The mascots were – Lily Hamilton, Dominic Hamilton, Emily Ball, Olivia Ball, Sophia Wright, Harvee Hindley, Lauren Carr, Imogen Hodgson, Elise Hodgson, Dot Russell-Gajos and Holly Foster.
The children had many selfies taken with the stars, gained many autographs for their collection and brought Everton luck. Simone Magill our visiting coach from the day before opened the scoring for Everton in the Blues very impressive 7 nil win.
