Super-glued locks could be a danger to life on Ainsdale beach - Please sign the petition

There was absolute chaos today at Ainsdale beach. Someone has super-glued the locks on the gate to stop all vehicles gaining access onto the beach. Sefton Council shut the gate and locked it on Wednesday night and put a sign up saying "Closed for the Winter".

The only people that could gain access in a vehicle were people that had a key to the lock on the gate such as fishermen , trawlermen, shrimpers, Police and emergency services. Today however, nobody was getting access due to the superglue that someone had put into the keyhole of the locks on the gate.

Closing the beach to the public is now a Danger to Life. If a member of the public were to need medical assistance, a heart attack for instance or maybe someone drowning, the emergency services could not gain access. The fire brigade would have to be called to break through the locks on the barrier which would all take too long and someone could die.

It was the most beautiful October afternoon, with bright blue sky and the beach was stunning. A perfect day to take the children out and get some fresh air or to go for a horse ride along the the beach but, to the devastaion of hundreds of people, they have had this right taken away by Sefton Council. They were penned out today like animals deprived of our beautiful coastline.

We are asking everyone to share this story and sign the petition, we dont need hundreds of signatures, we need thousands. Please take a minute to click the link below and sign it.

Do you want Ainsdale beach to end up like Birkdale beach. If there are no vehicles allowed on it, that is what will happen and then nobody will be able to take their children to play any more.

Ainsdale Conservatives are also asking people to sign their petition against Sefton Council’s decision to close Ainsdale Beach to vehicles for the next six months. Sefton Council had decided deny vehicle access, which led to a flood of complaints from local people.

Cllr Terry Jones, a councillor for Ainsdale and the Leader of Sefton Conservative Group, said: “I have met and been emailed by Ainsdale residents who are furious at the council’s decision to close the beach.”

Jamie Halsall, one of the Conservatives who set up the petition, said: “We have set up an online petition and a paper copy asking the council to reverse their decision. We urge local residents to support and sign the petition so that we can express our views to the council.”

Ainsdale councillor Cllr Ted Hartill said: “Myself and Cllr Terry Jones attended the Ainsdale Civic Society meeting last Wednesday to discuss our concerns and plan of action to reverse the council decision on Ainsdale Beach.

“It is our belief that the council is ducking from responsibilities and their economic cuts argument is fundamentally flawed.”
