The new Thornton to Switch Island relief Road opens this spring and on the 29th March between 11am and 3pm you have got a one off unique opportunity to have access and walk on the new relief road before the road opens to traffic. There is a £5 donation fee which is in aid of the Thornton Jospice.

About Jospice
Jospice is one of the oldest hospices in the country, providing care and support to terminally ill people and their families from within the Liverpool and Sefton areas. Founded by Father Francis O'Leary, a missionary priest, St Joseph's Hospice (Jospice) began in South America and Pakistan in the 1960's.
In 1974 the UK Jospice opened in Thornton, near Crosby. It was Father O'Leary's legacy to provide love and compassionate care to people of any faith and those without faith in the last weeks of their life. This commitment continues today, but as it is only partially funded by the NHS, fundraising is a vital part of the work at Jospice.
Here are the details of the walk.....
The relief road was meant to open in the new year and the walk was planned for the 11th January.
During the last month some problems have occurred that have resulted in a delay in part of the constructionof the road,as highlighted in the press release, and therefore the stretch of the road that would have been used was not ready in time for the 11th January. Pat Murphy from Jospice said “Its very disappointing that we are having to reschedule the date for this event, but we understand completely the difficulties that Balfour Beatty are having hat the moment. We want the event to be as enjoyable as possibly for our supporters, and also the safety of everyone is paramount on the day. The idea is for everyone to see the fully constructed road just before it opens to the traffic” A spokesman for Balfour Beatty as said we are really disappointed that there is a delay in the final part of the construction of the road, and for everybody's safety it would be beneficial to all to delay the walk and we are working closely with our contractors and also Jospice to reschedule a date as soon as possibly. It is now looking as if the walk will take place in March, and anyone who has already registered your name will be contacted by e mail and your registration fee transferred over.
