Two men arrested following attempted burglaries in Formby

Merseyside Police arrested two men following a number of incidents in Formby, Hightown and Southport on Wednesday, 14 March 2018.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: "A report was received shortly before 3.50pm that three males were seen in a back garden on Old Park Lane, Southport. A short time later, three motorbikes were seen nearby with two males on each."

"At 4.20pm, it was reported three males wearing motorbike helmets were seen attempting to force entry to a house on Old Town Lane in Formby before leaving on the bikes. Shortly after that it was reported three males rang a doorbell on Southport Road, Formby before running away and making off on three waiting motorbikes."

"Another report was received just before 4.35pm that three males had attempted to break into a house on Sandy Lane, Hightown before running off and riding away on three waiting bikes. Soon after 4.40pm bikes were reportedly being ridden in and out of traffic before refuelling at a petrol station on Crosby Road."

The offenders were then seen by police officers and a pursuit followed, assisted by the National Police Air Service. The pursuit continued around the Litherland area and then into Kirkby.

The occupants of a grey Ford Kuga car were seen attempting to pass a petrol can to the riders of one of the bikes, and the Ford Kuga was later stopped by police.

A Police spokesman said: "A 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old man, both from Kirkby, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary and assisting an offender. They have been taken to a police station in Merseyside to be interviewed."
