Formby resident age 91 receives highest French honour

91-year-old Formby resident called Roy Sinton served on the HMS Stalker ship in 1944 to support the allied landings in the south of France. He has now been awarded the Legion d'Honneur for his bravery in the Second World War.

On the 70th anniversary of D-Day in June 2014, the French President announced that the Légion d'honneur would be awarded to British veterans who fought for the liberation of France in the war.

Roy Sinton joined when he was 18, he then severed for three and a half years. He operated the anti-submarine detection equipment on the ship. After serving in the war; Roy went back to his job as a gardener and established a business in Halsall.
