Formby Junior Sports Club news and Frank's report

FRANK'S REPORT 03/10/16

The success story so far this season has been the popularity of Formby Junior Sports Club’s Inter Club Section.

Two hundred and eighty-five children took part last Saturday and it is pleasing to see that the concept of Inter Club football (everyone plays) is still held in the same high regard as it was fifty-seven years ago in 1959 when Formby Junior Sports Club was founded.

All the Inter Club Divisions are now underway. There were wins for Formby Grasshoppers (sky blue), Sandune Rovers (purple) and Cross Green United (orange) in the Year 6/7 age group to be known as Boys’ Super League Division One.

In the Year 4/5 section (Boys’ Super League Division Two) there were victories for Albion (green), Hotspurs (yellow) and Argyle (Sky blue).

The previous Year 2/3 age group was divided into two new divisions. With a few minor changes to be made to even out teams the two new divisions went well. The Year 3 group will be called Boys’ Super League Division Three and the Year 2’s will be the Boys’ Super League Division Four.

The younger age groups (Reception, Year One boys and Year One/Two girls) all continue to be settling down well with their coaching sessions and small- sided games.

The Girls’ Year 3/4/5 section is to be called Girls’ Super League Division Three. The Owls (pink) went top of the division after defeating second placed Kestrels (orange). Eagles (yellow) drew with Magpies (purple).

All four Year 6/7 Girls’ teams playing in the Girls’ Super League Division Two have four points each. They are Stingrays (green), Dolphins (blue), Sharks (yellow) and Seahawks (orange).

Flamingos (yellow) are in pole position in the Girls’ Super League Division One for the Year 8/9’s. Also in this section are Wildcats, Hornets and Wombats.

Ben Murphy, Gabe Bellemey and Corey Ashworh were on target with goals. Defender Christian Maher was the man of the match. FJSC Under 10 Blacks had a very evenly contested game with Burscough Dynamo. Sam Mycek scored a penalty. Man of the match was Oliver Charnock. Caleb Johnson made some fine saves in goal. FJSC Under 11 Blacks’ goalkeeper and man of the match Taylor Twentyman made some brave saves against a very good Southport Trinity Blue team. Marc Whitelaw, Thomas Walker and Callum Williams all played well in defence.

The two FJSC Under 12 teams lost cup matches. The Whites lost to Ormskirk. Owen McCann and Gerard Broomfield scored. Sam Cousens, Dan King and man of the match Sam Trainor scored one goal each for FJSC Blacks in the defeat by Churchtown Athletic.

Man of the match Jack Dennis was FJSC Under 13 Blacks match winner against Burscough Dynamo. Tait Sheridan had earlier scored twice for the Blacks. At 2-2 a brilliant goal direct from a corner from Jack Dennis gave his team an exciting victory. The duel partnership of Ben Sudlow and Dylan Sudlow in defence held firm in a tense finish to the match.

Pedro Gomes scored five times as FJSC Under 15’s gained an 8 nil cup win at Birkdale R. Also scoring were Owen Highton and Patrick Dutton. Man of the match was stand-in goalkeeper Ronan Rafferty. FJSC Under 18 Blacks also went into the next round of the cup by winning 8-2 against previously unbeaten Lydiale FC Saints. Lucas Gabriel scored a hat trick. Sam Rimmer added two goals and there was also one goal apiece for Lewis Doyle (penalty), Cameron Cheston and Ben Gallagher.

GIRLS’ REPRESENTATIVE TEAMS

In the Girls’ Hightown League, FJSC Under 12 United took the lead against Crosby Stuart in the first half with goals from Lauren Holden and Hannah Allmark. Girl of the match Freya Thornton added another goal after the interval. The defensive unit of Evie Stanbrook, Mia Shalliker and Amy Green ensured United kept a clean sheet.

FJSC Albion’s unbeaten run came to an end at the hands of FJSC Under 12 Rangers. Ella Stainton was Albion’s player of the match. Rangers’ two goals came from Lily Hall and Erin Denison. Yasmin Godsall, Aalijah Turner and Harvee Hindley came close to scoring for Albion but were thwarted by some excellent goalkeeping from Rangers keeper Helena Davies.

The match between FJSC Under 11’s Real and S. and B. Rangers was very even. Jasmin Stevens scored the decisive goal for Real. Rosie Johnson defended well and was named player of the match.

FJSC Hotspurs Under 10’s kept up their excellent form against Town Green. Bo Price, Paige Leather, Sarah Allmark, Chloe Price and captain for the day Ellie Todino were all on target with goals. Neve Thornton played well in an unfamiliar defensive position.

FJSC Under 13 Jets lost to a very strong team from Crosby Stuart who had a number of Merseyside players in their squad. The Jets are to be commended for battling from start to finish.

U.14 GIRLS UNDEFEFEATED IN NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

FJSC’s Under 14 Girls travelled to the Manchester City Training Ground at the Etihad Complex to take part in a national tournament organised by the FA for all sister clubs in England. FJSC were proud to represent Everton Ladies.

FJSC (Everton) played five matches. The results were as follows:-

Drew 1-1 with Coalville Rangers (Leicester). Lily Hamilton 1

Won 1 nil against Verwood (Bournemouth). Erin Smith 1

Won 1 nil against Tower Hill (Oxford). Lily Hamilton 1

Drew 1-1 with Wyrley (Birmingham). Lily Hamilton 1

Won 1 nil against Inkberrow (Manchester). Ella Lawson 1

FJSC finished the tournament undefeated and came second in the group to Coalville. Unfortunately only the group winners progressed in the competition. Disappointment soon disappeared as the squad moved to the Academy Stadium to watch Manchester City Women win the Continental Cup Final. To complete a wonderful adventure all the girls had their photographs taken with some of the Man. City and England stars such as Toni Duggan, Karen Bardsley, Nikita Paris and captain Steph Houghton.

FJSC MEMBER HAS EVERTON NIGHT TO REMEMBER

Corey Ashworth was the official Everton mascot at the Everton versus Crystal Palace Premier League match last Friday evening. He met all the players in the home team dressing room and shook hands with the Everton players as they all signed an Everton shirt for Corey. Once the players had warmed up it was Corey’s turn to take to the Goodison Park turf and score a couple of goals in the famous Gladys Street goal. To complete a memorable evening Corey led the Everton team out on to the pitch in front of a huge crowd. The match was also being televised to millions of people on Sky TV. Corey then shook hands with all the Crystal Palace players. It will be a night Corey will always remember.
