A 54-year-old died after being hit by a train at Fisherman's Path crossing

An inquest has been opened into the death of a 54-year-old Southport man who was hit by a train in Freshfield.
Philip Andrew Barber, from Southport, was in collision with a train at Fisherman's Path crossing in Freshfield. The emergency services were called to the scene at around 9.20am on January 21, following reports of an accident.
Mr Barber was pronounced dead at the scene.
An inquest into Mr Barber's death was opened and adjourned January 26.
Following the incident British Transport Police released a statement: “Our officers were called to an area near Freshfield, Formby, Merseyside at 9.20am on Thursday, 21 January following reports of a person being hit by a train.
“Colleagues form Merseyside Police and the North West Ambulance Service also attended but a 54-year-old man from the Southport area was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and the man’s family have been informed."
