Formby Junior Sports Club results and Frank's Report

FRANK'S WEEKLY REPORT 4 Apr, 2016

BOYS’ SPECIAL REPORT Formby Junior Sports Club has over three hundred boys playing football each weekend throughout the football season. There are twenty-two teams in the Inter Club Section for boys from four to eleven years of age. The sixteen Representative teams playing in local leagues cater for boys from Under 7 to Under 17. The Inter Club Section commenced from January 1959 when Formby Junior Sports Club was founded. FJSC later entered leagues for its boys’ Representative teams in 1973. The Girls’ Section started in 1999. The Inter Club Section is the backbone of FJSC. The ethos created by the club’s founder, my late father Jim Rourke, has always been that everyone plays regardless of ability. This has served FJSC very well for fifty- seven years. The creation of the Representative teams gave the FJSC boys the chance and opportunity to play against other local clubs. The two sections of the club run successfully alongside each other. REPRESENTATIVE TEAM REPORTS Formby Junior Sports Club won 4-1 against Great Crosby to stay joint top of the Walton and Kirkdale League Under 16 Division with goals from Paddy Quarless, Patrick Staunton, Lucas Gabriel and Adam Williams. The Under 16’s were also in recent cup action and played fellow joint league leaders Inter Colts in the KO semi-final. The match was very evenly balanced as both teams played their best in an outstanding match. Despite two goals from FJSC’s Paddy Quarless and one from Joe Maybury, Inter Colts narrowly won 4-3. FJSC Under 14’s lost 6-3 to Southport FC after extra time in the quarter-final stage of the Maric Trophy. FJSC Under 13 Blacks played their best football of the season to win 3-2 against second placed Redgate Rovers Yellow in the Premier Division. Dan Mitchell equalised for FJSC after Redgate had taken the lead. In their excitement the Blacks then lost concentration and immediately conceded another goal to find themselves 2-1 down at half time. In an excellent second half display by the Under 13’s, a deflected Dan Griffin corner brought the Blacks back to 2-2. From another Griffin corner the ball found its way into the Redgate net for FJSC Blacks winner in the 3-2 victory. FJSC Under 10’s Blacks had two hat trick heroes in Jacob Lewis and Harry Knowles in the match against Southport Trinity Black. Man of the match was Ben Hough. FJSC Under 9’s played well against Birkdale. Player of the match was Ernie Weights. Jake Stanton scored for FJSC Under 8’s against Altown and Lewis Parker was man of the match. Connor Daulby and Ivan Weights were scorers for FJSC Under 7 Whites in the match with Redgate Black. Alfie Griffiths was excellent in defence and goalkeeper Finn Bauer was man of the match. Thomas Dent and Finley Richards scored for FJSC Under 7 Blacks in an exciting encounter with Hesketh Colts. Micky Denison defended well and Daniel Mortimer made some fine saves in goal. REPRESENTATIVE TEAMS – THE SEASON SO FAR 5 v 5 matches The two new FJSC Under 7 teams have both played well in their first season. The Blacks were Runners-up in the Craven Minor League Tournament and the Whites also reached the final stages. FJSC Under 8’s were also a brand new team last September and have improved enormously. The Under 8’s have won eight and drawn four of their matches played. 7v7 matches FJSC Under 9’s have made pleasing progress in a season of transition. At Under 10 level FJSC Whites have had some very good results. The Blacks in their first season have gained confidence and have won a number of their matches. 9 v9 matches FJSC Under 11 Whites and Blacks both reached the quarter -finals of the cup and have had good sequences of results. FJSC Under 12’s reached a cup semi-final and are in mid table in the Championship division. 11v11 matches FJSC Under 13’s United are at present the Premier League leaders and are in two cup finals.
