Formby Junior Sports Club results and Frank's Report

FRANK'S REPORT 7 Mar, 2016

It was another topsy-turvy weekend for Formby Junior Sports Club’s four hundred and fifty young footballers. Inter Club was on, but once again on the Formby Play Sport 3G pitches, whilst the majority of the club’s Representative team matches were called off due to heavy rain causing waterlogged pitches. The girls were the lucky ones with only one match being cancelled. It was the complete opposite for the boys with only three out of sixteen teams being able to fulfill fixtures. REPRESENTATIVE TEAM FOOTBALL It was the last round of cup matches for all six of FJSC’s teams in the Hightown Girls’ League before the much awaited cup semi-finals to be played under floodlights at Waterloo RUFC on Wednesday 11th March.

FJSC Jets won for the second week in succession. Goals from Lydia Warburton, Liberty Murphy and Simone Jones helped the Jets to a closely contested 4-3 win over S. and B. Rangers Yellow. At one stage the Jets led 4-1 but S. and B. produced a strong comeback to set up a very tense finish. FJSC Rangers good run of form continued with a 7-2 victory over Churchtown Thunder. Rangers were rocked when Churchtown roared into a two-goal lead. An Erin Denison goal before half time proved to be the game changer. The defensive pairing of Beth Brewer and Mollie Murphy plus the tireless work from Alex Murphy-Worrell in midfield stifled Churchtown. Karen Lane and Chloe Siliprandi were the play-makers and in the second half Rangers took control with Erin Denison completing her hat trick and first half goalkeeper Lily Hall reverting to her more familiar striker role and scoring four times. FJSC United were struck by a late match -winning goal from Churchtown Lightning. Yasmin Jones had equalised for United five minutes after Churchtown had taken a first half lead. Both teams had their chances but a Churchtown player scored the second goal with a wonderful shot. Goalkeeper Evie Stanbrook made some good saves and there were some excellent performances from Lauren Holden, Amy Green and Mia Shalliker. After a goalless first half in the match with Litherland Remyca, FJSC Albion’s Yasmin Godsall and Brooke Denison scored the goals to keep the team’s winning run in tact. FJSC Real played well against Town Green with Bo Price, Maisie Cox, Jess Lynch, Zoe Sixsmith and Ava Lewis all scoring. Goalkeeper Chloe Price made some brave saves. FJSC Hotspurs’ slick passing game against Crosby Stuart produced goals for Grace Rooney, Paige Leather and Olivia Ball. It was another good display by the young team. Captain for the day was Neve Thornton. FJSC Under 13’s travelled to snow covered Burnley. When waiting for the snow to be brushed off the 3G pitch the girls of the two teams had a most enjoyable snowball fight. The result of this popular pre match warm up is not known. The game itself saw Burnley win 6-1 but the depleted FJSC team, with no substitutes available due to illness, played very well. Lily Hamilton used her pace to score a much-deserved well-taken late goal for FJSC. Player of the match was Imogen Murphy who deputised in goal and made some great saves. Molly Graham, Ella Lawson and Rebecca Cain all played well.

It was the Craven Minor League Tournament day for FJSC’s Under 8 boys. In a group of six teams the Under 8’s won two and drew one of their matches. Ben Murphy, Corey Ashworth, Jake Stanton, Gabe Bellemey and Connor Lloyd, who was also voted player of the day, were all scorers. Ewan Davies, Sonny Carroll and Callum Davidson scored for FJSC Under 11 Blacks in the match with Forefield Rangers.

INTER CLUB FOOTBALL The Inter Club Section at Formby Junior Sports Club is reaching its most exciting time of the season as Cup Competitions take pride of place in most age groups. FJSC was formed just over fifty- seven years ago in 1959 and although the names of the teams may have changed over the years the ethos of the club has always remained the same. Quite simply everyone is welcome to join FJSC and will immediately be placed in a team regardless of their ability and be guaranteed an organised game of football each week. This is the same today just as it was in the early club days on Duke Street Park in 1959. Last Saturday morning nearly two hundred children came along to play for their teams such as Pinewood Athletic, Sandune Rovers, Leopards and Seahawks. The many parents and grandparents who were enthusiastically cheering on the children will remember some of the original team names such as Park United, Royal Albion and Freshfield Athletic. It was the second round of the League Cup for the Year Two age group and the Leopards are now in pole position. Albion and Rangers share the lead at the top of the Year Three/Four Division. The Girls’ Year Four/Five Section of fifty girls started their cup campaign with a quick and successful formation of six new teams. All the teams played well with three high scoring and very exciting matches. The standard of the football played in this division gets better every week. After Round One the joint leaders are the Wallabies, Wildcats and Pelicans. All the other age groups were once again very well attended with lots of goals being scored.
