Formby builders' merchants R W Almond joins Huws Gray branch network

Acquisition marks return to takeover trail for Anglesey-based group

The Formby premises now part of the Huws Gray branch network.

A Formby builders’ merchant has been bought out, for an undisclosed sum, by Anglesey-based Huws Gray.

The acquisition of R W Almond Builders’ Merchants takes the number of Huws Gray Merseyside branches to six and its total trading branches to 44 and further strengthens the company’s position in the North West.

The share purchase deal follows a two-year period of consolidation and preparation for the next stage of growth for the firm. Terry Owen, Huws Gray managing director, said: “We are extremely excited to be opening a new branch in Formby. It has a fantastic customer base and fits in perfectly with our existing branch locations.

“I would like to thank Chris, Dave, Pat and Sue at Almond’s for a smooth acquisition and for the positive reception we’ve received from everyone.

“We are keen to ensure that Huws Gray maintains the Almond family’s excellent reputation, as well as working alongside the existing team to further develop opportunities within the Formby branch.”
