Sam Davies from Formby landed a whopping Carp on Monday
It’s been an exciting week for anglers as personal bests achieved have been reported all around Merseyside.
Over in Haskayne at Rosemary Wood Fishery on Monday evening, the cries of excitement could be heard afar as 19-year- old Sam Davies from Formby took a pristine mirror carp of 25.11.0.
Specialising in the world of specimen fishing, Sam – who works at Formby Front Line Paintball – targeted this beautiful mirror with a critically balanced homemade bollie and size 12 Jack Hilton hook. Taking him nearly 30 minutes to land, to say he was chuffed would be an understatement.
Off-shore fishing on the river Mersey has seen anglers enjoying plenty of sport over the past week with three outings on Brigand Charter boasting more than their fair share of cod and thornback ray for this time of year.
Over three charter day’s, Brigand saw 95 cod taken to 5lb 6oz and 93 rays to 6lb.
Out fishing over the rock channel off New Brighton on Saturday, Brigand again gave anglers a fantastic day’s sport, seeing thornback rays, Tub gurnard, flounder, cod, whiting, pouting, dab, dogfish and a baby tope taken.
This Brigand trip also saw skipper Kev McKie witness the charters boat record broken and shared the experience with Knowsley rod Graham Leach, who marked the occasion by taking his first ever Smoothhound, weighing in at 14.8.0 and, of course, the boat’s best ever for the species.
Tempted by peeler crab, Graham’s fish was the best of four smoothhound over 10lb.

On-land personal bests were also being taken.

On the match scene, Sunday’s open over at Mistral Lake on the Millhouse Fishery saw a close finish as Andy Burnett (JR’s Tackle) notched the win by a very tight margin, weighing 45.0.0 with carp to 4lb on the pellet at six metres.
Steve Pollard (JR’s Tackle) took second place with a close 44.12.0, with his fish to method feeder and pellet tactics.
John Raby (Elton Tackle) took third with 37.0.0 using pellet.
Still on Millhouse, pleasure anglers are taking plenty of good carp to nearly 20 pound on sister lake Mescar over the bank.
This beautiful lake is a firm favourite of anglers around Merseyside, set in the heart of the Downholland countryside.
