MJ's in Formby launches MJ's Live with comedy nights, live music, open mic and bingo

April 3, 2015

A unique new business is preparing to become a community hub as it launches live entertainment for all.

MJ’s in Formby has only been open for a couple of months, but already the restaurant has big plans about the role it wants to play in the community.

Next week will see the launch of MJ’s live, with the top floor of the eatery being transformed into an exciting entertainment venue, with comedy nights, open mic events and bingo all planned.

The ground floor of the venue will remain dedicated to providing fast, fresh food at low prices, with diners served either inside the restaurant or via the drive-through 24 hours a day. The venue sells food including a wide range of wraps, main meals and salads for between £3 and £5.

Manager James Clarke, said: “We’re all really excited to launch our entertainment nights.

“We really want MJ’s to become a part of the community and we’re very keen to get everyone coming down midweek and having a good time.

“No-one is offering what we do locally at the moment and we are keen to plug that gap.”

MJ’s, situated on Formby Bypass near Tesco, is planning to host bingo nights every Tuesday, a free live music and open mic night hosted by Rob Vincent every Wednesday and a comedy night every Thursday, hosted by comedy king, Brendan Riley and costing just £5. The fun starts at 8pm each night.

James, 21, said: “It’s great to have Brendan Riley on board with us, we’re really trying to create something fresh and exciting here.

“The business has been going really well and we’re very excited to see what the future holds.

“We have big plans for the next few years and we’ve built MJ’s as a large venue to accommodate those dreams.

“We want to make MJ’s in Formby a centre of excellence and then eventually expand the brand and open several regional units.”

MJ’s is the result of a multi-million pound investment by a local businessman and all of the 115 staff employed there are from Formby and the immediate area.

James said: “We have tried to use as many local producers as possible and become a part of the local community.

“We are very keen to ensure our staff are fully trained and provide great customer service.

“We have a full training programme and have enrolled our staff on first aid and food hygiene courses.

“We’ve come a long way in two months and we’re still constantly evolving.

“MJ’s Live represents the next chapter and we are all very excited.

“This is just the beginning.”
