Ormskirk and District Snooker League....

images.jpg
Division 1 Crosby Village SC continue to own leadership of the First Division of the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League. This week they recorded a solid 5-1 away triumph at the expense of St Cuthberts and this outcome sees them increase their advantage at the top to three points.

Staggeringly, that was only the second point they have dropped in their first six matches as they continue in superb form and will it be third time lucky for them to capture the coveted Division One title ? Les Dodd SC continue in second position after maintaining their 100% record with a 4-2 victory at Maghull RBL B and they will certainly be pushing for their hat-trick of league titles this term. This match saw the amazing Gareth Hibbott seal the 'Break of the Week' accolade, already his third of the campaign, as he compiled a fabulous break of 90 in his frame success. This contribution takes over as the highest break so far this season and certainly sets a high mark so early in proceedings. Gareth was given a fine chance by his opponent, and as usual, Gareth fails to disappoint as he dispatched an opening mid range red to gain black ball position. With the usual fluent potting, excellent pinpoint position and superb temperament Gareth proceeded to take the next twelve reds with high valued colours, the majority of which were pink balls. After potting the colour off the thirteenth red Gareth had to screw around off two cushions to gain position on the final red ball into the same right hand black pocket but, agonisingly for him, he was a fraction short of pace and snookered himself on that red ball with a century looking a formality but unfortunately this brought an end to such a magnificent break. Gareth joined the Ormskirk League at the commencement of the 1999-00 season and represented Southport SC every year since its sad closure just after the conclusion of the 2011-12 campaign. With Southport SC, Gareth won the First Division Title on no fewer than seven occasions, four Kenney Cup triumphs within the space of five seasons including a hat trick of wins and two Le Rose Cup successes. Two seasons ago, Gareth joined Les Dodd SC and helped his new side capture the Division One crown and completed the double with a fine Le Rose Cup triumph and they defended their crown last term. On a personal note, Gareth's unbelievable unbeaten record came to a hugely disappointing end for him last season as he was finally beaten at the seventy four time of asking and his sensational 73 league match winning run stretching back to 12th October 2010 was staggering, an astounding fact particularly in one frame matches. Gareth has also been Individual Champion of the League on three occasions in 2007-08 & 2009-10 seasons and again last season. He has also been Pairs Handicap Champion with his partner Andy Booth in the 2008-09 & 2009-10 campaigns. With the invention on the UK Leaguesnooker Tournament by site founder, Richard Ormiston in 2009, Gareth has been an ever present in the team representing the Ormskirk League and he has been an invaluable member of the team as he has helped us capture the Title in 2010 & 2012 where we triumphed at the superb South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester. Finally, Gareth also now owns an amazing nine spaces on the Ormskirk League's Centurion Plaque with the nine league centuries he has compiled to date, the highest being the 127 in the 2010-11 season, and three that were compiled last campaign as well as the magnificent 128 he made in the Pairs Handicap which became the all highest break in the sixty nine year history of the Ormskirk League. Maghull RBL A kept in touch with the top two sides after a 5-1 away win over Skelmersdale Wardens A to also continue their 100% start, they remain in third place some nine points off the pace but do have a match in hand over those two teams. Aughton Institute A also remain unchanged in the league standings in fourth spot after a 3-3 stalemate with Farmers Club A to remain unbeaten, they have two matches in hand over some sides due to very sad circumstances. Stanley Club A got back to winning ways with a 4-2 success against Rainford ESC, this was their second win after their opening match success but also have two matches in hand over some teams due to very sad reasons. The other match played this week saw Olympic BC defeat Scarisbrick NSC 4-2 to move into seventh slot in the league table. Other notable breaks this week were – A Booth (Les Dodd SC) 38, M Brown (Les Dodd SC) 34, A Edwards (Crosby Village SC) 32 & D Hulme (Crosby Village SC) 32. The Division One merit table saw Farmres Club return as pace-setters after their draw this week, they now sit on 69 points. St Cuthberts drop into second place after their heavy defeat and are on 68 points. Scarisbrick NSC remain in third position after defeat this time around but are now joined in that spot by Olympic BC, they both have 65 points. The sixth week updated table can be found below. Division 2 Skelmersdale Wardens B continue to lead the way in Division Two. This week they recorded their fifth win of the campaign in seven matches played to date and are the only unbeaten team in the Division so far, they defeated Aughton Institute C 4-2 and now hold a healthy four point advantage. Stanley Club B moved into second place after a 4-2 triumph at the expense of new boys, Aughton Institute D, the Aughton outfit drop into fourth spot but sit only five points off the pace in a very tight Division so far this term. Aughton Institute B drop into third position after a 3-3 draw with Skelmersdale Wardens C but would of lay in second but received a two penalty point fine due to a late submission of their result. The other match played this week saw the bottom two struggling sides clash and the predictable 3-3 scoreline was reached at the end of the evenings play.
