FRANK ROURKE'S REPORT FROM FORMBY JUNIOR SPORTS CLUB

It was the last weekend of football at Formby Junior Sports Club before the Christmas break. The heavy rainfall during the week had made all the pitches extremely heavy and muddy but miraculously all Representative matches and Inter Club coaching sessions and games went ahead as planned.

Formby Junior Sports Club Under 11’s Saturday team played Netherton Reds in the Hightown League. The Under 11’s started well but Netherton scored first. Max Ryan equalised and then Charlie Garvey gave FJSC the lead before half time. Substitute Josh Adderley scored to double the lead and with two minutes from time Charlie Taylor scored his first goal for the club. It was a good all-round team display against a team who had won the previous encounter. Man of the match was Max Ryan.

FJSC Sunday Under 11 team entertained Burscough, a team they had lost to earlier in the season. FJSC went on to the attack from the start. Burscough defended well with their goalkeeper making a string of excellent saves to deny FJSC’s efforts. Eventually the deadlock was broken when Charlie Garvey scored with a spectacular shot from outside the goal area. Archie Ogden added a second goal. After the interval Charlie Garvey scored his second goal of the game after a great passage of play. Man of the match Dominic Maxwell completed FJSC’s scoring late on. It was a tireless display by the team.

FJSC Under 10 Whites and Crosby Stuart produced an end -to- end thrilling match. The two goalkeepers were outstanding and kept clean sheets in the first half. The Whites passed the ball well throughout the match and a training pitch move finally brought success when Harry Nelson scored.

FJSC Under 16’s played Southport Athletic. FJSC dominated the game but could not convert any chances but in the final minute Southport Athletic scored to take all three points.

FJSC Under 10 Blacks played at home and enjoyed another close match against Hesketh Colts. The game was evenly poised in the first half when Hesketh Colts were awarded a free kick and scored with a long range shot. Two further goals followed quickly after to put FJSC on the back foot, but the boys continued to push forward and were awarded with a penalty shortly before half time. The Hesketh Colts goalkeeper made an excellent double save though to prevent Formby from scoring. In the second half FJSC came out looking to make amends and were soon rewarded when Lewis Donoghue scored early on. Lewis went close to adding a second, while there were some notable performances in defence from Robert Gorman, Sam Uttley and Charlie Knowles which prevented the Colts from adding to their tally. The man of the match award went to Bobby Marshall for his all-round display.

FJSC Under 8’s produced an excellent team performance against a good Southport Trinity team. Man of the match Harry McKenna scored his first goal of the season. Isaac Burgess, Harrison Taylor and Zac Hooson-Jones also scored one goal each. The boys have really developed well in the first part of the season and are looking forward to games in the new year.

FJSC Under 7 Whites played FJSC Under 7 Blacks. All the boys from the two teams played very well and showed some great skills and determination. Scoring for the Whites were Mason Stringer, Joshua Halpin, Joshua Tallon and Diego Funes-Cervera. Joseph Kenyon scored for the Blacks in the first half and nearly scored again in the second half. Man of the match for the Blacks was Rory Rankine.

For FJSC Blacks Ryan Lamb once again played well in defence. Finn McDerby was busy on the wing in the second half. Noah Walker-Hall tackled well in midfield. Oliver Hall-Gleeson kept his position well. In attack Rory Rankine and Joseph Kenyon worked tirelessly.

INTER CLUB FOOTBALL

All the boys enjoyed their coaching sessions and the follow up matches. There is no doubt that all the Inter Club boys have improved immensely since the start of the season.

SATURDAY’S SCORERS

The following boys scored – Finley Cregeen, Jack Haggart, Walter Ramsdale, Noah Williams, Diego Funes-Cervera, Jacob Gadsby, Oliver Hall- Gleeson, Ryan Lamb, Finn McDerby, Rory Rankine, Mason Stringer, Joshua Tallon, Joel Wright and Oliver Dean.
